I don’t understand why the cost of education is so much? I mean I get supply and demand and the student loan game, but some of these universities could run off the interest of the endowments alone?

Yet F King wants you to believe they are broke and are going to have to shut down.

Factor in increased access to loans. They were handed out like candy in the 2000's. Higher loan amounts awarded allowed the universities to charge more in tuition and fees.

Should make all these schools reimburse students for a percentage of their previous loans. It's criminal.

Doesn't six semesters at $20,000 each add up to $120,000?

LSU comes out to about $100k sticker if you are a LA resident and pay $23k per year with about ~$10k/year in expenses.

$100k is reasonable compared to other law schools, but ridiculous when the cost of education was $7k/year (adjusted for inflation) in 1989.

One of the previous posters said it was $20,000. $10,000 a semester isn't as ridiculous. I've heard current undergrad tuition is 8,000 or 9,000 per semester.

It is ridiculous, you can't work your 1L year either so you are taking out loans for living expenses unless your parents are subsidizing you.

i've made a lot of sacrifices to pay off my loans early

i had a bit of a derailing mid-2016 through the end of last year but i'm back on track to hopefully deal with most of them by the end of next year (or i may dedicate a separate investment portfolio to match the 3-4 super low interest ones i have and just pay them monthly and still come out ahead)

i get emotionally enraged when i heard about these loan forgiveness programs, especially for kids who got to enjoy life and law school more than me. if you took out a loan to do study in Europe AND you are trying to have your loans forgiven....

What's a first year associate at a place like Jones Walker worth these days? Thirty years ago, when tuition was $1755/semester, you'd get something like $65,000 or $70,000.

I'm year 2 in my solo practice. Finally doing decently well, but I still live like a fricking college kid. Went to law school for free and I still have ~$120k in debt. Crazy.

I'm hoping they get rid of PSLF completely. We should all be in the same boat of suck.

Tuition is robbing individuals and families. I feel like institutions have gotten away with ridiculous fees. I understand inflation and increases, but the rate at which colleges have done it is literal insanity. For example, if someone had 0 financial assistance and wanted to become a doctor, they could easily rack up $500,000 in debt from undergrad all the way to med school.

By contrast, my parents were only paying $500 per semester at LSU. It's now almost $5,000 without TOPS.

i could pay mine off today with savings but i like the insurance. i am about to trim my savings down and put the difference in an index fund. until my life got derailed at the end of last year i was going to use my 2nd job playing poker to get $10-15k/year to put into some sort of investment opportunities but that's looking rough this year

I remember my grandfather said Southeastern tuition was $20 when he enrolled in 1937.

How did you rack up that much without tuition?
