If you look at the facts, you wouldn't be afraid.

It really cannot be understated how lazy LSU instructors are and the lengths they will go to to avoid fulfilling their classroom obligations

University of Washington already did this, granted the state of Washington has 70 confirmed cases

Financial panic. Only 300 Billion was spent worldwide in preparation

Italy is a country of 60 million people. There are 6,000 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and 230 deaths. Is that something that warrants mass hysteria? No.

Christ man, do people not understand exponential growth? Should people only be concerned when it is too late and the hospital systems start collapsing? It's like looking at someone who just got diagnosed with a serious disease and making fun of them for getting treatment before they start actually dying from it. How can you be so shortsighted?

As long as 25 year old female teachers aren't forbidden from face to face (wink, wink) instruction with their teenage students....

Are they going to give students a credit on their tuition?

So you think its more important for them to go to class to listen to a lecture than to just pull it up on video and watch it?

If the faculty knew how to make a usable video, and the university had the infrastructure to deliver it, they'd already be doing it.

My prediction is that Universities that try this route -- "hey profs, do videos instead,k?, we're cancelling all the classes" are going to see some serious internal shitshows that will make the administrators WISH they had covid.

Haven't seen it locally, yet, but I've seen messages that worry me.

Why do we even have in person college classes anymore in 2020? Everything can be done online. Even testing can be done with a proctor via video chat.

I'm supposed to go to a family event later tonight. I could drive there, but I may get in a wreck. Or maybe it's a deer that hits my car. Or maybe there's some uneven pavement walking up to the house and I slip and fall. Or maybe it's stormy outside and I get struck by lightning. The point is, more people in this country die every year in all of the scenarios I've just listed than those who have died from Coronavirus. Should I quit living life because of a minute statistical probability?

Nobody is worried because of what the coronavirus outbreak currently is, but what it will be. Two weeks ago Italy had 20 cases. They have gone from 20 to 6,000 in two weeks. They could easily be at over 100,000 in the next two weeks if they don't take drastic action. The problem is that something like 10% of infected need ICU support and ventilators, and once infections go high enough hospitals will be completely overwhelmed.

As far as your new, weird question about living life, nobody wants you to not live your life. Who is telling you these things? Instead people need to take sensible precautions to keep this from spreading. And the govt needs to increase testing and contact tracing.

1918? When moderate diarrhea was still fatal. That's your basis for comparison?

Utterly delusional. Some people just can't fathom that government action is required for something occasionally.

Sensationalist press yet one more time. If they can conduct classes via the Internet for an extended period for the on campus student body, why have on campus facilities ? Shut down the buildings, save he utilities & minimize the maintenance. Really?

Hey, meet me at the Tiger Lounge for calculus class and a few cold ones. Oh, don’t forget to pay the dorm fee this month.

Give me a break !

Meeting in person is outdated

It's still valuable in ways that are hard to define. Low-latency video certainly helps but it doesn't completely replace direct human interaction.
