Just bought a new truck, just in time for prime love bug season.

I have to travel for work and will be staying at hotels after driving through the swarms.

What is the best strategy for avoiding paint damage?

It’s a depreciating asset and means of transportation. Roll with it and let it ride
Is damage from love bugs still an issue in 2026?

Ceramic coating or keep it waxed to prevent them from sticking

Paint protection film

Also a damp dryer sheet works well to wipe them off.

Just keep it under 35 mph and they will bounce off.

Put a decent wax on it.

Lighty coat the painted surfaces with Pam

Remove love higs with damp dryer sheets.

Never do this. I tried, when I got home I had a sticky mess of LB's smashed over the front. Took a lot of bug & tar remover to clean.

For reference I paid $2200 for full front + half roof, A pillars, 1/4 panel impact areas, and spoiler on the mustang. And $7k for full vehicle and windshield film on my SUV.

I've done it several times and never had that issue.

I have a love/ hate relationship with film.

It's hell to remove (or used to be) for repaint. The yellowing has gotten much better in recent years

That said, I put in on the sports cars and RV, but not the truck.

Two things.

I will be at hotels for days after traveling, and I often arrive pretty late.

Also, doen't constant car washign damage/swirl the clear coat?

Wax it. Use a bug and tar spray like Mothers to remove them.
