Bullfrog WD40 prior to driving or to remove dead ones?
I find a light coating when the paint is clean lets them wash off easily.
Also, an EMT friend who used to drive for Acadian Ambulance said he coated his ambulance front with lemon pledge for easy cleanup, before a shift. Never tried that.

I have a love/ hate relationship with film.
It's hell to remove (or used to be) for repaint. The yellowing has gotten much better in recent years
The old gen 1 Xpel stuff was a huge PITA. I was one of the first dealers in LA for it and dealt with so much BS. It was also a huge PITA to install. The new ones are much better. I even put it on my bikes now and just do it myself. The cars i pay someone to do.

That said, I put in on the sports cars and RV, but not the truck.
I only went all the way on the SUV because I use it at the ranch and my old GX had a ton of scratches on it and i didn't want to destroy the new one with brush scratches (west texas racing stripes) all down the side.
The windshield film is my new favorite car hack. It saved my arse from a golf ball sized rock on the SUV and it looks like the surface of the moon from all the road trip hits it's taken.

Smear hog lard or beef tallow over the front. These simple household ingredients will protect your paint underneath for years to come.

Because they are attracted to the CO from the combustion engine

Just keep the car waxed and don't leave bug juice on there for a long time. Just hosing it off helps a bit and doesn't remove the wax too much.

Done that.
I would wash it as often as you possibly could then. Other than that, not much else you can do IMO.

windshield film
I'm thinking old tearaways, but I know it's gotta be way better than that.

Did this for a while. Started noticing significant scratches.

Yeah this stuff is way better. It's a little thicker than regular PPF, has some hydrophobic properties and offers good protection. All my exotic owning buddies started doing it because their windshield are $$$$ and have had good luck. Only downside is that the wipers will ghost the film on a car that sees a lot of rain so on those you have to replace every few years or live with the ghosted wiper look. I'll replace mine in 6 months or so because that big shot it took torn a piece of the film and it's annoying me.

Paint protection film
Until it turns yellow in a few years and a complete PITA to remove. I guess it's not an issue if you get a new vehicle every 4-5 years.

The early generations of it were pretty rough. I was an OG Xpel dealer back in 2008ish. Thats pretty common on the early film. The new stuff is a lot better. My wife's had it on her Tesla for 5 years now with no issues.
