I can post a picture of any animal, dangerous or not, and it can look cute. That has nothing do with the topic of discussion.

They were engineered for blood sport. That's a fact. But your magic love is going to 100% reprogram all that, and turn them into harmless lap dogs. You must be special.

You did not, as I was not comparing a tiger and a pit, which I already stated.

I don't think most pit owners acknowledge or maybe understand the true issue non-pit owners have with this breed. At least in my mind, it's not about whether a particular pit is a bad dog or a sweet dog. It's the potential for the breed to do harm. It's the same as leaving an unsecured loaded gun where your kids can get to it. The gun won't hurt anyone if left alone. The article says the attack was unprovoked. I ask you, what could a 1 year old have possibly done to provoke this unrelenting attack? We're not talking a nip from the family lab when the kid got too close to the food bowl.

By your own admission, you obviously understand the dogs potential to do harm. I know all dogs are capable of biting someone, but the owner of this dog could not get the dog to let go of his 1 year old daughter's face without stabbing it to death. How many other breeds behave like that?

Many years ago, I knew a guy who raised pits to fight. When a litter of pups would reach a certain age, they would take the runt and taunt it into a frenzy with a whole chicken. Once the dog locked its jaws on the chicken, they would stretch him out and make a deep cut on one of his back legs with a knife. If the dog let go of the chicken, they would kill the whole litter. This was BEFORE the dog was trained to fight. They weren't going to spend time training dogs that didn't have the right stuff, and they damn sure weren't going to bet their money on the dog. I know a lot of people will call bullshite. But anyone who has ever been to a dog fight knows how vicious these dogs have to be to compete.

My point in all of this is that there is some genetic trait in this breed that certainly makes them different from other breeds. That genetic trait may not ever rear it's head. Hopefully for you and your child it never shows up in your dog. But if it does, mark my word, it will be just like that gun going off. You will not be able to stop it fast enough to keep it from doing serious harm.

Kinda my question as well. I'm starting to believe it's that these people are the types that just like to go against the grain for attention, or because they're "not going to let anyone tell them what to do".

This thread is total bull shite.

My pit bull mix wouldn't harm a human unless provoked, and it would take a lot. Every dog is different and has their own personalities.

My dog loves to eat and attack all animals except horses lol. She is absolutely vicious against other animals but is a total darling to all humans. So loving and so caring.

Something is off with these stories and we don't get the full stories. Ever.
