I recently saw an article that showed Doctors here will have more flexibility in prescribing medical marijuana to patients. I’m curious, is Louisiana going to have some kind of card that patients must carry? Are they going to be allowed to smoke at their homes?

Really not understanding how this works, just need someone with a better understanding

Why wouldn't they be allowed to?

Do you have to leave your house to take any other prescription?

No. I read that there will be designated smoke pits in each neighborhood where you will be legally allowed to light up with other patients. It will be supervised by a nurse practitioner and you will be required to wear a mask. It will be a gun free zone, of course.

yes they expanded the program.
your doctor now has wide discretion as to what ailments he can prescribe for. You won’t be smoking anything though...the only prescribed cannabis is a tincture and it’s expensive as frick

one day this state will get its head out of its arse

I always thought that LA would be fast to adopt loose weed and gambling laws. Surprising

States need to take a look to the legal states like Colorado and Washington. I can only speak from the Washington perspective since I just moved here, but people normalize and grow accustomed to it. There will initially be a huge spike in recreational use because it's the cool new thing to do, but there aren't potheads just walking around everywhere. It's mainly used at home and in a small amount. Wish I could partake but Uncle Sam says no.

Most doctor’s don’t want you to smoke. The prescriptions are usually sprays, oils or pills. They aren’t selling them in little baggies or anything.

And I’m not sure, but I think it’s still illegal for for inhalation with a vaporizer or whatnot.

Legislature needs to figure out how to line their own pockets first.

And that takes time because they're as dumb as they are crooked.

Louisiana medical marijuana excludes smokable forms of the drug and they remove most of the good stuff

The old laws used to require doctors to have a special license to recommend MMJ and the list of qualifying conditions was very limited.

Now any doctor can recommend MMJ to a patient for any condition they feel it would help. You are not required to carry a card.

you have to have a quailfying condition to get approved.

There's some pretty legit conditions too, cancer, chronic pain, glaucoma...Not just anixety.

And the marijuana comes in liquid form.

Yup - if the restrictions on pharmacies/dispensaries would be lifted and more consumption methods allowed, then maybe we'd have something.

They are waiting for the concept of a “metered dose” to be possible before smoking or vaping is legalized. Think of an asthma inhaler, good luck, isn’t happening anytime soon, too many variables to even discuss.

This isnt necessarily true. I'm a card holder in another pain in the arse state and the State has dicked it up royally.

We do have options to buy flower, edibles, tinctures, etc..., but prices keep going up, cultivation is limited, very restrictive barriers to entry, and legal adult use this year made it worse. I only have my card because its 1% tax instead of 35%+ for recreational, plus I could grow with my card, which I dont.
