Having driven through much of the country, I can immediately tell when I've crossed the border into Louisiana. Trash, weeds, road disrepair, couches, cribs, car parts, body parts, mattresses, it's everywhere and it's horrible. It's like one state-sized urban paradise.

I was driving through Baton Rouge yesterday and noticing that the sound barriers on I-10 are so overgrown it looks like one of those movies that is set 10 years after the zombie apocalypse.

At least we don't have any worse of a litter problem than our neighbors*. We do have litter.

That's bullshite. I see more junk on the sides of I-49 than any other interstate through TX, AR, and AL. I saw full coils of galvanized flashing on I-49 northbound around Gillem. Not only are Louisianans trashy, they dump expensive stuff too.

I think we have a higher ratio of idiots who don’t understand that loose items don’t magically stay glued to the bed of your truck at interstate speeds. A few months ago I watched what appeared to be a queen sized mattress fly out of the bed of a pickup truck on I-10 between the mall and the 10/12 split.

But I imagine most people who drove by later and saw it on the side of the road blamed homeless people.

The trash along Louisiana highways is absolutely appalling. I honestly cannot believe that you all put up with it.

It’s been this way since I was a kid in the 70’s. I remember driving to Dallas back then and telling my parents that I wish we could move to Texas because the roads were smooth and clean. Once you hit the Louisiana line, buckled roads and trash everywhere.

I-110 looks like a scene from a dystopian film

shite is embarrassing

Doesn’t help that 50% of drivers go 90+ mph and 49% go 45

Why can’t it be both?

Trashy folks AND lack of maintenance

From the Sabine to Beaumont is probably the most atrocious part of I-10 for the better part of 30 years

In a bit of mild defense of our buckled roads, we have excellent soil for growing things but shite soil for building on. In much of Texas, you’re damned near walking on the bedrock.

Amazing how that changes directly at the state line.

This never gets talked about, but I think this is the worst part. You can pick up all of the litter and 5 minutes later more could be there. The weeds and general disrepair really showcases the neglect, and I'm not talking about the pavement. We can't buy a little weed killer? I don't understand why such little effort is put to maintaining the highways and streets we have. We pay a lot of taxes for garbage from LADOTD. Not even talking about building new bridges (we need that too), but just keeping the reflectors and stripes painted on a highly deteriorated road surface is just too much for LADOTD to handle.

The issue is that people are hired to work in offices, and not enough people are out doing the work.
Money is being spent on salaries, and not enough on getting work done.

It doesn’t. Have you been on the roads in East Texas?

But jokes aside, the further you get from the ancient Mississippi flood plains the better.

If I were a sheriff or mayor I’d demand 5 littering tickets per month per officer until littering stopped.

On the flip side, the further you get from the red hills of eastern Mississippi and its ideal substrate, and move west towards the Mississippi floodplain: There's nothing like driving by picturesque, 3 million dollar Madison, MS estates... but on a road that tosses you around like a raggedy carnival ride clawing at your oil pan like a man buried alive. That Yazoo clay is hell on vehicular activities.

There are no innovations for replacing good foundations.

no state has a litter problem. it's a people problem. too many people are absolute trash so they don't mind acting trashy.
