Not 50% but we could reduce the population by 30% pretty easily

Attempted Armed Robbery is enough for me. The rest are just proof he is unable to function in society without bringing misery to others.

You right. Habitchual

Just doesn't sound as good when a prosecutor says "If yo client don't take this plea, I'm gonna take him to trial then habitualize his arse."

"If yo client don't take this plea I'm gonna bitch his arse." Just has a better ring to it.

Doubt it. Every week we hear of crimes committed by previous offenders. Those beds won't stay open long.

Is an armed robbery considered a nonviolent crime anywhere?

I suppose you've never had experience with the criminal element.

He probably would have stolen more that 500k worth of shite in those 23 years had he not been in jail

So, you want to enact the minority report (cruise movie) where you are convicted before you commit crimes based on what you might have done?
Jesus. The critical thinking skills within TD are decreasing by the post.

Only a moron would agree that this is what the worlds most advanced civilization should look like, and that this is a good use of resources.

I don't think it'd be easy to reduce the population by 30% without massive infrastructure in place to supervise, educate, and train them to be productive. It would be tremendously expensive. Probation and parole are reactionary agencies now, and that's why they're largely ineffective.

The idea that we could let them out and say please don't do it again is nonsensical. Recidivism would be 75%.

Oh well. And, those are the only things he got caught doing. Probably dozens of other crimes he got away with.
Is your stance that it's ok that he got life because you "think" he committed other crimes and it's just an evening out?

The United States has an embarrassing prison situation and Louisiana is one of, if not the worst situations in the country.

Parish jails are mostly unsentenced awaiting trial because our court system is so fricked up. Most of those are dumb drug charges

Do you think it makes sense to hold someone for 6 months until his trial on a drug charge that’s gonna get sentenced to time served and a fine? Also take into account he’s on special medication that cost taxpayers a couple grand a month. That’s not uncommon

We are not talking about jails. Pretrial is a different topic.

Louisiana is THE worst in the entire world. At least the last time I checked the numbers they were, which was maybe 3 or 4 years ago?

The amount of people Louisiana incarcerates is insane.

Yet, we still have a crime rate amongst the free that is through the roof. Seems the incarceration rate is justified, if not too low.
