They should have never been in jail in the first place. they need rehabilitation and life skills, a jail cell for a non violent drug offender is basically worthless

People on this board comment frequently that legalization will affect crime rates. Data shows otherwise. I don't have time to post all of the stats but Colorado hasn't seen a drop in the 8 major UCR reporting categories since 2012. That includes Murder, Rape, Robbery, Larceny, auto theft, and assaults. I am not against legalization but it can't be justified by saying we will have lower crime rates.

State pays around $27/day each for the Parishes to house these guys. So $51K savings per day.
Of course, some will be back inside within a month, and there are many new guys replacing them daily.

I'm going to say they've seen a big population increase. And those numbers didn't jump enough for me to think it's a problem compared to population growth.
IF LA legalized weed, a bunch of people aren't moving down here like they flocked to Colorado.
Just a quick search. Just from 14-15 they added 99k residents.
And from 15-16 another 91k
