Columbia has a couple hundred of them and it looks like they are there to stay. They have a vet running around and tranquilizing and castrating a few but that will work about as well as castrating a few males of any species. There are lots of cattle herds with only a couple of intact bulls taking care of business.

Look at all the young men being killed in Chicago but all the females still get bred.

On the bright side can you imagine the pendulum swinging the other way and now we’d have invasive species hunting laws for hippos? Getting drunk and spotlighting hippos would be a blast, the damage to the ecosystem notwithstanding.
