If Seabaugh is going public with it that means he’s secured support through backchannels.
Simple majority of either chamber shouldn’t be hard to get, especially with how conservative the House is.

They absolutely have this power.
Whether he has as much support as he claims, who knows? But I would not doubt it.

Maximum risk isn’t simply allowing people to make their own health decisions in the dark. And that’s not even what would take place. Recommendations and guidelines could and would still exist giving people a plan based on their situation.
Opening up with no restrictions isn’t the worst case scenario you’re making it out to be. For the GOP or the people of the state.

There could be no enforcement of it. The Legislature has no power other than to wipe it all away.

I'm not saying its Armageddon. I'm saying it maximizes the public health risk and the State GOP will assume that risk.
Hence why using this as leverage is the better play. Force JBE's hand and make him say no publicly.

quote:So? There’s nothing to stop people with heart conditions getting on rollercoasters. Or pregnant women from getting on an airplane. Yet they still seem to avoid those things without a law or the government enforcing them not to. People do things at their own risk every day. This isn’t something new that’s going to destroy society or the GOP.
There could be no enforcement of it.

You think they'll do it?

So no individual resposibility? It seems that, according to your post, it will be deemed to be the GOP's fault if someone dies.
Free will.

I mean, both sides are going to try and use this politically. My point is that you can’t stop that... no matter who decides what or the results of that decision. Antonio seems to be so afraid of some extra cases after an opening of the state that he’s willing to sacrifice the economy for another two weeks.
Here’s some facts:
1) the spread won’t stop regardless
2) the people who get it now or later will have access to the care they need
3) the death totals in September will be almost the exact same regardless of steps taken this week or in two weeks
4) No one will be safer in two weeks or eight weeks. There’s zero harm in opening now.

If they are really serious then the ones leading the charge should get on the phone with JBE and tell him to rescind the order and issue real guidelines or they are going to wipe it all away and make him look like a powerless slug.

5) there never was harm justifying closing in the first place

Everyone thinks they aren't going into poverty because the government will bail them out.
It is as if they have never seen the government work.
As an example, why is Unemployment so high if we have this magical Payroll Protection Loan?

It's very simple. A full-blown opening maximizes the public health risk. Is it possible that absolutely nothing changes and COVID cases continue to decrease? Yes. But it also provides the greatest opportunity for a second bounce that will have social consequences (further lockdown, spike in deaths etc.)
And, if that risk materializes and some major negative consequences occur, then the GOP would be held politically responsible for it by a lot of Louisianans.
What I talked about - using this power to leverage JBE - reduces both the public health risk and grants the GOP a level protection politically.

Yeah, I think the House will. Antonio Moss is right about playing the politics of this so the GOP doesn’t own it if it goes bad, but I think they have the numbers to do it if they wanted to.

I'm not sure if you could have mischaracterized what I said any worse.
Time to grow up and stop living in a binary world.

It’s also possible that virus activity will be suppressed by summer conditions. And it’s possible that continuing to artificially suppress infection rates will result in a greater boom in the fall.

Then the GOP can play hero for forcing the onerous restrictions to be lifted
