The Monday night system has all of the makings of a potent storm. Negative tilting trough, right entrance of an increasing jet streak, one hell of a temperature gradient at the surface, and a ton of moisture to lift over very cold air.
I need milk and bread for real and there won't be any of that after today

Is this looking like more of a snow event for Houston or are we far enough east and south to stay mostly ice

Edit: his gas fireplace is one of those gas log faux fireplace heaters. It has an electric start.
At least you can fire that bad boy up with a match.
ETA: I see we've covered this ground. Oh well. Let's all make fun of Peej.

I am thinking ice but hoping more snow
I don’t really see how the lows are only 39 and 38 for tonight and tomorrow considering it’s 39 right now

If you believe Weather Underground, you're looking at snow and some mix starting at 3am Monday morning through noon. Some ice, some snow.

Houston is a tough one with this. Probably get some ice and snow.
Read Space City Weather for Houston stuff. Those guys are excellent and know the area well.

Today was suppose to be low 70's.
It never hit 65 and the temp is already 59 and starting to drop in Denham.
I don't see how it's as warm as they are predicting this weekend if we are supposed to be getting reinforcing cold each day.

The Pacific should be busy with disturbances that'll blow into the Rockies and then ride around the cold air mass and create conditions for multiple rounds of winter storms/just storms for more SE locations in the east for the next week at least.
And The Weather Channel is going to name every damn one of them. Right now it is Shirley. The next round is already Tabitha. They will name each wave as an individual "Winter Storm". Craziness.

Do what they can for eyeballs. It's dumb, but I don't begrudge them.

but if the pilot is already on on the fireplace, shouldn't they be fine?
My pilot stays lit all the time and I flip what looks like a light switch to turn the gas on for mine... I started to panic, so I tested it. Turned off all breakers and the switch still worked.

They're talking potential heavy snow in the system for us up here in Kentucky for Monday and Tuesday. Thoughts?

im not buying the temps getting much into the 40s on saturday in BR, even though the NWS is predicting it getting to 50
most models show it barely making it out of the 30s sat/sun

I use Windy.Com, it seems to be the best site I can find for comprehensive weather displays. LINK

Windy.com is just a graphical display of the NAM model.
*Disclaimer, I happen to like the NAM, obviously for short term mesoscale prediciton.

In a very useful interface. Very easy to use, particularly the app.
