So are we looking at ice storm possibility in south La? Or just icy road conditions?

An ice storm that would likely produce very icy roads seems pretty likely, especially the further west you go across south Louisiana.

Been reading this thread for a week and cant seem to figure out what the answer is...it would appear something is coming and it'll be cold AF, but nobody can agree on the what

I think it won't be as cold as single digits but it may get into the low to mid teens IF there's lots of ice on the ground. Otherwise it'll be in the mid to upper teens at night with highs in the 30s. With ice, we may not make it out the 20s on Monday.

The ice potential -

It definitely looks quite possible that we see some freezing rain and sleet on Monday with accumulations up to a half-inch (which is very significant). From Baton Rouge westward to Lake Charles is the area with the highest likelihood of accumulating freezing rain and sleet.

So we ended up with about 1/3" of ice here in Louisville. Good times.

Also, that tree is typically not anywhere near that bird feeder.

Will this be enough to snap power lines?

The problem isn't as much snapping the line itself, but when trees get heavy glazing like that it damages them and they take out lines when they break under the weight of the ice. We have some people here without power at 1/3". Especially since we've had some wind today.

At 1/2" of ice you're almost certainly going to have widespread power outages.

Listen to these words very carefully:

With the shallowness of the cold air in southern Louisiana, there will be very little, if ANY, snow. We will receive freezing rain and sleet - and that's it.

It's going to be very, very difficult to get snow out of this event in south Louisiana. The cold air is going to just be too shallow.

We have close to the whole parish without power just from the rain today. Ice would send us back to the Stone Age for weeks

Um, I'm pretty sure science tells us that if it's below 32 (using the Fahrenheit system)it will snow.

Trust the science.
