You are confusing James Spann with Mickey Ferguson.

Ferguson is a clown.

Spann has a passionate following (as evidenced by those who are rushing to defense in this thread) and he knows exactly what he's doing to keep it that way. He'll virtue signal about dealing with trolls when his comments are 10:1 positive and then basically dox people on social media who disagree with him. He'll wax poetic on Twitter during a severe weather threat about how he doesn't have time for naysayers because he has important work to do then immediately turnaround and spend an hour spamming his feed with photos of kids dressing up in suspenders.

He was smug as hell in 2014 to anyone who questioned his "dusting" forecast. He apologized....but that smugness returned pretty quickly. Sure, its tough forecasting winter weather in Alabama but the guy cares way too much about being a social media celebrity. I know that's borderline sacrilegious to say in Birmingham, but its the truth.

Are you asking about this Thursday, like in 3 days or next Thursday, 10 days from now?

I can’t keep track of what the frick is going on in this thread.

Calling for ice here in S.Atlanta Sat.night/Sunday morning and then again overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Looks like the Monday event will be worse.

is the ECMWF the only model leaning towards the warm side?

isn't the GFS usually the one that leans on the warm side?

aren't the current runs becoming consecutively colder on the ECMWF?

Absolutely spot-on.

I think it's the Euro bias of a stronger SE ridge showing up. The cold air on the Euro (well the 12z at least) ends up splitting around the SE. One secondary lobe goes to the NE and the bigger one sits out west along the front range and south into the Rio Grande Valley. Louisiana stays on the edge and doesn't get quite the cold intrusion.

The GFS waffles about splitting a little bit off to the NE US but generally keeps the mass of cold together and pulls east with much colder air into the gulf coast.

At this point, we know someone is getting an ice storm in the next week. Bad news is it the spread is soo broad on where and even when. Otherwise, it's gonna be fricking cold no matter what.

Heck, our forecast has changed so much in the past couple of days, I wouldn't really be surprised if it was 95 degrees and sunny on Sunday, 12 and snow on Monday and 88 and partly cloudy on Tuesday.

The ICON is sticking to its guns with freezing temps starting early Saturday morning. If anything this run is cooler than the last 2.
