I'm not saying these tax incentives were done correctly but abandoning the film industry was a bad idea. A welfare state should have embraced it

it's not abandoned though. there are big productions filming all over the new orleans metro and the studios have been pretty full since covid.

The production companies sell the credits for cash. Other companies buy the credits and offset their tax liability.

The R-Squared production company in Monroe has left their building.

I lived in Monroe from 2016-2020, I don’t remember seeing any movie activity there. Bog course, Duck Dynasty was still a big deal but it was on its final legs at that point. Where was the R-squared studio at?

If Louisiana wants a sustainable industry that won’t just go away without the credits (or even an adjustment), they may want to revisit the Related Party Transaction restrictions.

There are ways to keep jokers from screwing the system again without disincentivizing indigenous production companies.

Louisiana has been booming for years, especially after they cleaned up/restructured the incentive program. You can’t find crew or stage space in the state with over 25 + productions happening now. Even Celtic in BR has been fully booked for the last year plus. Louisiana has had the most stable film incentive program for the last 20 years (longer than GA and more consistent than NM). What that has led to is a large experienced workforce, stages and thriving support industries (catering, trucking). Some possible stage in Austin means nothing to Louisiana.

Louisiana politicians f’d this up just like they do everything else. They were #1 in film production like 10-15 years ago until some loser politician decided Louisiana was better off not reaping billions of dollars of economic impact in exchange for a few million in tax incentives. Georgia took over and now Texas is going to as well. Louisiana is too far behind now to compete.

Every study made by The Legislative Auditor or Dr. Scott had this program as a big money loser.

Sure jobs are created with our tax dollars, butnot near enough to pay the tax dollars back.

Tax incentives are just part of the world now. Louisiana not using them is just going to put them even further behind

If you are going to subsidize an industry, why in the world would you pick an industry that puts down so little roots? A vagabond industry that moves around? An industry that you have to buy every year or lose the business.

We have spent over a Billion dollars on this industry already, and if we don’t pay up; they will leave and go elsewhere.

Hollywood can take tax credits or settle for cash.

It's not a good idea to have a movie business in a state. Those people corrupt the places they go to. Note how Georgia is changing. Just let them have New York and California. A state having a movie business is not a cool thing.

Guys like you really confuse me. In your entire lifetime, I'm guessing no figs have assaulted or propositioned you. Yet, you're deathly afraid. Why is that?
