Maybe, but you would have had to deal with pushback from all of the businesses along 90. It's part of the reason that the I-49 project is taking so long. I'm still not sure they've completely settled on the path through which that roadway will travel.

I thought I-49 south route was settled to run concurrent with existing Hwy 90-B through Westwego...only question was whether the new I-19 south would be elevated freeway or at-grade.

But I have heard before that the city of Westwego was fighting against I-49 because they argued that it'll hurt the businesses along the route. Although I'd argue the opposite, that it'll help the local businesses because I-49 would bring more drivers through the area. People who are just passing through would pass through without stopping anyway...whether they were on a freeway or a 45mph road with traffic lights.

Alexandria is getting a loop before Baton Rouge. In fact, we need a loop thread. I don't think I've ever seen one.
Get ready for a bunch of jackasses from the Live Oak/Watson area to raise hell.

Those people love to organize shite. They keep trying to incorporate the area (an area larger than BR in acreage ); they tried to stop a landowner from putting a gravel pit on his property (lawyers, state officials, and everyone from members of the school board all the way up to federal EPA got involved... they spent an insane amount of energy against that); they are fighting against widening of highway 16 north of Watson (fricking insane); they didn't want to let a man subdivide his own property; they don't want gun ranges in the parish; they tried to stop a pipe plant from building in the middle of nowhere (would add 800 jobs); they want everyone in the parish to pave their driveways (this is Livingston Parish... not the County Club of LA); and they have fought against the loop several times and will continue to fight against it.

I'm from there, born and raised, and I want the damned loop. Tired of driving through a million damned school zones and it taking over a fricking hour to get to BR.

This is where eminent domain is your friend. When the traffic is bad enough, get ready for the bulldozers.

No but I'm very interested in how Alexandria is joining the league of loop cities and will have a seat at the table with Houston (two seats), Atlanta, Charlotte, and Minneapolis.

It always amazes me to see this and I try to share it with everyone b/c it's so unknown to many BR natives.

Baton Rouge was supposed to have a legit bypass made out of Airline Highway when I-10 came through town. This was planned in 1955!.
This should make you a little more frustrated reading about how it was cancelled.

The skeleton of the project is still there. That's why there's interchanges on Airline at Florida, Greenwell Springs, and Plank.
