New Orleans's coronavirus death rate is THREE TIMES higher than New York City's, driven by the Big Easy's soaring rates of obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure

Orleans Parish, which encompasses New Orleans, has a rate of 29.5 coronavirus deaths per 100,000 people

That's three times more than the rate for New York City, which is about 10.8 deaths per 100,000

Doctors say obesity and related ailments, such as diabetes and hypertension, may be part of the problem

A CDC report found that six percent of COVID-19 patients with existing conditions die of the virus

The Louisiana health department revealed 97% of COVID-19 patients who died had a pre-existing condition

New Orleans is at greater risk that the national population because 39% of residents have high blood pressure, 36% are obese and about 15% have diabetes

Louisiana isn’t testing anyone unless they are seriously ill.

I tried and couldn’t get tested. Wasn’t old enough to worry bout

More tests won't lower the deaths/100,000 number

Birx just said in the presser LA is at a current 26% positive test rate. For some here, that means if you tested 4 Burrows for COVID-19, 1 Burrow has the virus.

Irrelevant.

This is death per capita, not case fatality rate.

I live in Vermilion Parish, have my yearly sinus issues and no cv symptoms whatsoever and was told I could go to Erath and get tested. I refused, bc I’m not gonna waste a test that someone else needs.

I’d go out on a limb and say that New Orleans MSA is the unhealthiest metro area in the country with a population greater than 1M.

None of this should shock you.

Sao still doesn't get your stance. You know that asymptomatic carriers can still pass it on. Of anyone, you should be sounding a trumpet to be safe but instead you're downplaying it all even still here in April. Why?

That has nothing to do with this thread at all.

Inthink there are enough now and more coming. You should be fine taking one. Plus, you need to know if you are around others and are sick.

Again, extrapolation and the understanding metro testing far outweighs the rural availability may be leading to a death rate you can't even have substantiated now. So, actually, I'll just ask this: Do you trust any of the data and if you do, why?

Just give it time New York. Yours will look like ours soon. New Orleans will peak weeks before New York will.
