I know of at least one nursing home that has a policy of once you test positive, they move you to a COVID wing. You have to test negative 3 weeks in a row to go back to your room.

So that's at least 4 tests for every positive COVID case.

No, we are in denial that shutdowns and phases are worth it.

Hint: they arent

I have been against shutdowns and phases the whole time. It doesn't change the facts of what this virus is doing or will do. There are some people who are completely closed minded despite everything we have seen.

Its a virus that kills a very specific type of person

The message should target those folks to protect themselves

But nope, the message is to target everyone with little care for consequences

Agreed. Until we see something done to address that exact situation we will see the deaths increase and restrictions continue.

Just because you were tested before means nothing going forward. A test is only indicative at a point in time. You could contract the virus the next day.

All that matters are hospitalizations and deaths!!

Slight increase in deaths, but not like April.

New York had 1000 deaths a day in April.

The difference in young people actually getting tested is likely skewing the totals along with increased tests. More younger people are testing positive now, but in the early days if you were below 40 you were told you probably have it, but were sent home unconfirmed.

Everything shows the older demographics in La trending up much slower than the young. They are trending up though which is going to cause the deaths to increase.

Trending the over 60 crowd is probably a better predictor of a eventual death increade than the overall deaths.

I haven't seen the positive test data, but I wonder how that plays into this as well. If there is a threshold crossed.

Not sure if this is the lag time, but they seem to follow each other.

The deaths will go up when the hospitals become overcrowded. It’s FACT. People don’t receive the same attention and care. How long can a respiratory specialist spend with one patient when there are hundreds of other at different stages of the disease?? How many people will refuse to go to a hospital that’s grossly overcrowded?? Would you want to be shipped to a hospital 300 miles away from your home and family?? People are most likely dying at home because they don’t want to go. Doctors are also saying that some of the people dying from this are showing up way too late. The current treatments work better when administered early on. The death rate will unfortunately go up. Everyone will continue to ignore this until it knocks on their door.

Just as an example, my neighbors are in their 30s and have two kids, all four have tested positive and are pretty much over it now.

This means now 1 in 5 people in Louisiana have been tested.

I have 5 in my family and yes, 1 has been tested. Due to exposure, employer required.

Coupe thoughts
1. No sure how many test they are doing
2. Are people complying or is it being enforced?

This thread was more fun when people were putting up things like 3 day rolling averages of positive percent, hospital beds, vents, etc. to justify their positions.

Have they even told us at what point the number of hospitalizations is considered "over capacity?"

If we're at 1000 now, how many more would it take to overwhelm the hospitals?

That’s a lot of cases with not a lot of deaths. I definitely don’t like hospitalization numbers going up but there is no reason to change course. Our system isn’t overwhelmed and people cannot afford another shut down

That kinda sums it up. Folks need to get with the prevention program because we can’t change the long term outcome with short term shutdowns.

Or twice a week for residents and employees, if someone tested positive they are no longer tested.
