This same thing happened to my family years ago, lucky for us no one got hit.
Freaking tire came screaming through a wooded area dividing the rest stop and highway, it was going 70-80 mph with the rim attached. Would have killed anyone it hit for sure.

Looks like a part of the axle broke off and travelled 1000 ft.
