Could be an number of things...Gas Pressure exceeded the max allowable pressure of the vessel, oil tank caught on fire and exploded, etc...

I'm on a platform that moves around 250-300mmcf of natural gas daily with pressures up to 1700psi. I imagine if we had this type of explosion here vaporized may be the correct term.
I may go listen to the marine radio and see if I can pick up the coast guard response.
