I can tell you the mental decline is harder.

It's both hard. I lost my Mom in December due to metastasized breast cancer. It was absolutely devastating to watch her lose her ability to walk and to eat while she was aware of what was happening. Thankfully, she wasn't quite as lucid in the last two days before she passed.

So sorry to the OP. Losing a parent, particularly one you're close to, is hard. I hope you can find some peace.

Man, I am so sorry to hear about the death of your mom. I hope that you can take some comfort in the long life she lived and the joy she spread. You and your mom will be my prayers tonight.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Take heart in knowing that she is now free from the prison her mind had become. I know that is a hard thought now, but hopefully it eventually brings you peace.

My mom is much younger but in the throws of this horrible disease. Beyond all the physical limitations that she needs assistance with, it takes all of us all we have to try and lessen the obvious depression that comes with the confusing hell she is constantly in.

In my worst moments, I almost wish it was cancer. Her spirit was better suited to that fight. Dementia attacks good people's best attributes, their character, personality, and mental strength. She can't even recognize the fight she's in, or the fact that her family is in it with her. It's tough.

Agreed. But i have personal experience with someone going through both simultaneously and my whole family agrees that the mental part is rougher on us.

Very sorry for you loss. Lost my Mom to Alzheimer's a few years back. It was a horrible experience. Lost my Dad a couple of years afterwards due to complications with cancer surgery.

Miss them everyday but was blessed to have them as long as I did.

Again, very sorry.

I am very sorry to hear this. I wish God's consoling hand touch you and yours, and that he grant her Eternal Rest.

I am caregiver to my 86 year-old mother, it's not easy, I hope you get a well-deserved rest, too.

Sorry for your loss. I watched two grandparents die from Dementia, one lived with us, and an aunt from Huntingdon's disease. Most terrible thing ever.
