For fellow old farts. Tell me you didn't forget about some of these things and how they influenced you. It was a magical time. Share with your kids.

The 91 year old Army Col. I hang out with has a bunch of stuff like this in his shop. It's dusty as hell but he has all kinds of stuff from the 40's and 50's. He was born in 1924 and he's got more energy then most 50 year olds I know.

I miss the 50s and I wasn't even born until the 60s! My parents told me about those times and they were the best years for our country, IMO.

Heck when my parents were growing up in the late 30s and the 40s, they didn't usually even lock their doors when they left the house. Only if they were going out of town would they bother to do that. Of course they were both from small towns but I sure wouldn't do that today no matter where I live.

Good link, btw. I like that song.

My mom said she was constipated when she was pregnant with one of us and her advice from the doctor was to drink coffee and smoke a cigarette while she sat on the toilet.

Yeah, I don't think Doc's would be giving that advice these days.

Well it would solve the constipation problem.

Wasn't around then, but some of it looks awesome. Those big Caddies with those ridiculous fins. You could pop a cold one on your drive home after work.

I remember Camel or maybe Lucky Strike advertising their cigarettes as the ones RECOMMENDED BY DOCTORS to relieve sore, scratchy throats.

After reading those ads, I decided a career in the advertising business was for me: I can write, I like money, and for the right amount, I can easily be persuaded that truth is relative.

My epiphany story ….

Friend and I would get our wagon and go through the neighborhood collecting coke bottles. Corner grocery store would give us two cents a bottle.

We would get enough to go to the "picture show" and get a coke and bag of popcorn. A ticket was fifteen cents and a dime each for coke and popcorn.
