So what will? Asking him to pretty please commit himself to a mental ward?

Well, the whole "committing a crime thing" makes it pretty easy for the courts to have him admitted.

You can be pro mental health help and hold people accountable for assault at the same time. They're not mutually exclusive.

I must have missed the part where you suggested that he also needs and should receive mental health treatment as part of his sentence.

there is no solution to a "divided country". We will always be divided as we are not a homogenous society nor will we ever be.

Uh, sanctuary city is a term that applies to immigration.

I know that. Sanctuary cities also have the highest # of homeless. Same politicians, same policies, same problems.

Unless you're suggesting that all the homeless people causing problems are not Americans.

I'd contend that there are a significant proportion of homeless illegals living in these sanctuary cities. I also will state that unchecked illegal immigration makes it harder for Americans to get jobs thus prolonging the homelessness.

the only utter fallacy- besides your hubris in thinking you know everything- is that we can achieve unity as a society.

you may not like it, but its a fact.

Possibly.

I'd further contend that the homeless issue/crisis is a multifaceted one that involves the opioid epidemic, housing crisis (in CA especially), mental health epidemic, and a couple other factors.

I don't have the answer but it's a complex problem.

If you want to give him treatment in addition to his jail sentence, I don't care.

Again, if he gets treatment in addition to his jail sentence, I don't care. This idea that people who assault other people shouldn't get punished is exactly the attitude that incubates the current problems in places like skid row and the bay area

Do you think that it can’t be both?

It’s obviously a nightmare situation, and the man is obviously sick in the head.

Stop voting Democrat....pretty easy.

quote:

Chesa Boudin, the urine-and-feces-plagued city’s incoming district attorney, pledged during the campaign not to prosecute public urination and other quality-of-life crimes if he was elected. Boudin declared victory Saturday night after results showed him winning a plurality of votes in the DA race.

quote:

Boudin “was raised in Chicago by Weather Underground leaders Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn” after his parents were sent to prison on murder charges while he was a toddler, NBC News noted.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders cheered Boudin’s victory in the election.

It's an aggregate of these policies that cause the issues. First it was doing a way with vagrancy laws, then petty theft, then public drug use, then encampments on the sidewalks, now "quality of life" laws.

So now, it's legal for someone to camp outside the entrance of your business, shite on the sidewalk, shoot up, and come in and steal your stuff. There are businesses in Seattle that have had to close or move because of these exact policies.
