Look, you don’t have to live there if you don’t like it.

Great restaurants, breweries, scenery, hiking, etc. I love Asheville, and don’t care about the political leanings of anyone there one way or the other.

I haven’t said a single thing about politics. I’m talking about fricking hipsters, which I know plenty that lean both ways. If you don’t understand what a hipster is and how they can create a cliche and touristy experience, you’re probably a patchy beard wearing douchebag. I don’t care if you love Asheville, it’s not what it once was. Period.

How far? I'm about to be relocating from the Austin area to just north of Weatherford. Getting married in March and her(no pics) family has a couple of ranches. I have an electrical business and I'm planning on opening a second shop when I get up there.

To stay on topic: I've spent a lot of time in NC. It's beautiful, the people are friendly, great golf, and you can be 2 hours from the coast and 2 hours from mountains if you live in the middle of the state. That drive home to BR and back is gonna be killer after you have to make it a few times. We drove straight through from Austin to Pinehurst one time, it was almost 24 hours with pit stops and all.

I've lived in Texas for a total of 15 years, and I doubt I'll be moving anywhere else. The guy that said Texas has a 9% sales tax is full of shite, it's either 6% or 6.25%. He may have lived in a city with additional local sales taxes, but in unincorporated areas it's just the state tax. The city I live in currently just dropped property taxes by 1%. The economy here is booming. You can get a good amount of land for a decent price.

Didn’t the Asheville city council vote to pay blacks reparations last year?

Ouch. That’s a hard thing to do leaving the pretty Texas Hill Country. I don’t dislike the Fort Worth area but way less desirable topography and less outdoor activities.

I live in Boston. As much as I love Asheville, it’s a huge step down from where I live.

I have family that lives in Asheville and my grandmothers second home is there as well. I’ll do myself a favor and visit as often as I damn well please.

Please do. Don’t venture beyond Waynesville or you’ll be laughed at and shamed all the way back to Boston.

Sounds good by me. Never heard of the place and doesn’t seem worth visiting. Enjoy being miserable where you live.

You come across much more cordial in the cigar threads on the food board than you do on here. Any reason for the hostility on here?

Marion, NC

Lake James is one of the cleanest lakes in the country.

Schools are good. 1.5 hrs to Charlotte, 30 minutes to Asheville, 4.5 hrs to Atlanta or Charleston.

Bert scene is nice, people are nice…

Yeah, the Hill Country is great! I've been here since 09. I'm gonna miss the water holes around here like Krause Springs and Hamilton Pool. I told my fiancé we're gonna end up with a lake house down here.

FW isn't bad, definitely better than Dallas. I lived in McKinney and Allen from 2002-2004. That was as close to Dallas as I wanna get. I had a service call in Oak Cliff one day, and walked around the house to find a guy trying to jack tools from the back of my truck. FW is cleaner, the traffic isn't as bad, the people are nicer, and not as many transplants voting democrat.

What hostility? He’s incorrect about Asheville and confirmed himself to be the type of person the rest of WNC doesn’t want around. He doesn’t even know where Waynesville is despite it being 25 minutes from West Asheville, but we should definitely listen that guy when it comes to accurate depictions of the area.

I’m sorry if my strong language offended you.

I said in my opinion Asheville is a great area. I apologize for not knowing where your little area outside Asheville is. I didnt know having an opinion on a city required unilateral knowledge of where a-hole posters on TD live.

You tried to act superior to me because you assumed I live in Louisiana. I have actually done nothing but be complimentary of the area you choose to live in despite all of your bitching.

If it’s so bad there, move. But I really like visiting Asheville and the family I have that lives there loves it there.

No, you’ve been complimentary of Asheville. I don’t agree with your assessment of the city and find it to be inaccurate and inflated. Asheville at one point was a great city. Then people from California, Boston, and other places moved in and slowly evolved it into what they wanted their version of Asheville to be.

This version sucks compared to the old version.

I don’t live in Asheville. I live in Bryson City. We work very hard to prevent what happened to Asheville from happening here.

You’ve never heard of Waynesville either despite the best brewery and restaurant in the Asheville area being located there, so no surprise a cultured traveler such as yourself has never heard of Bryson
