Yes, it's another one of these threads.

We've stayed in gulf shores, orange beach, perdido, pensacoula, ft. walton and even sandestin.

This summer my kids are the right age that I want to do a proper cheesy arse beach trip in the heart of destin. The kids would enjoy the water park and other activities in the area and I want to be within walking distance or a short drive to all of that stuff and good restaurants, etc.

What suggestions would you have for a good 2 bedroom condo? Can be stand alone or part of a resort or development.

I always go early enough or late enough in the season that I've never had problems with crowds or trash, so spare me the lectures. And I'm not interested in Seaside or Water Color this year.

My parents had a place at Pelican Beach resort for about 15 years. There are two buildings there. The Pelican, down on the beach, and the Terrace, closer to the road. The Terrace has a nicer pool. It is smaller than the Pelican pool, but the Pelican pool is in the shade a good part of the day and the one at the Terrace is in sunlight all day long.

You can walk across the street to the water park. You're not far from the Harborwalk, AJ's, McGuire's, and several other places to eat. There's a Mellow Mushroom you can walk to from there if you want to grab some beers and a pizza. And there's the amusement park, The Track, a few minutes away.

The interior units at the Terrace are all 3 bedrooms. I think the ones on the ends are 2BR with an option of a lockout for a 3rd. So you could just rent the 2BR piece of that.

There is also a little golf cart shuttle that will run you from there down to the beach, but it is about a 5 minute walk with kids and beach stuff. They rent chairs by the day/week but you can just bring your own as well.

There's also a seafood market you can walk to and grab stuff to grill. There's a couple of large gas grills you can use on a lower deck by the pool.

Wife and I stayed at Silvershells in Destin for our honeymoon. We loved it, it was private, nice and quiet. Check it out.

Oh, and the Winn Dixie and liquor store are close as well for groceries. There's a Target that isn't that old across the street too. I know it had only been there a couple of years before my parents sold their place 4 years ago. Back Porch is a short drive. Damn, I'm missing having access to a condo just remembering all of this.

What is the appeal of going to a beach where you are going to be packed in like sardines and there are fricking traffic jams to go out? I don't get it

Not telling yall where I like to go either lol. Good food, no crowds, and cheaper. There's no water park, go carts, or puttputt courses though

How much are you looking to spend? A good friend of mine is a real estate agent there and that's what she sells. Those and the high end condos.

Destin isn't that bad except for the holiday weekends and spring break. I could leave my duplex when I was in college and be walking in the door at the condo in under 2 hours. We didn't have Friday classes in the summer and went every Thursday to Sunday for a few summers except the holidays. If you avoid peak time it is fine. Weeks like the first week schools let out, the last week before school starts back, July 4th and Labor Day. Other than that it isn't bad. Of course we left all of our stuff there since we owned it and mom was usually there as well, so we just kept the kids in and cooked most nights. Occasionally we would get her to keep them so we could go out on a date or see a movie if it was raining.

We stay at Jetty East every year. Look at places on GulfShore Dr. It is located in the middle of the city, and the place are on the beach. We like JE, because you can walk to the Jetties and on the back side of the jetties is a nice place to snorkel.

Go eat at Boshamps

The only thing I miss about Nola is its proximity to Destin.

Hope this helps

Check out The Silver Dunes

It's next door to Sundestin, and nothing on the other side (yet). They tore the old Holiday Inn down a few years back and have yet to start rebuilding. Or as of this past summer they haven't. They have the best beach setup guy in Destin.

I graduated in 2004 from Troy. My parents bought it my freshman year, spring of 2000. We still went for a week or so every summer, and long weekends now and then after we graduated, but 4 hours in the car with kids is a ton different than 2 hours with my wife.
