My gas truck gets about half the mileage and thus half the range while towing. That wasn’t on the sticker. I had no expectation that mileage or range wouldn’t be impacted when towing a trailer. Because adding several tons of weight behind a vehicle and expecting it to behave the same is not reasonable.

One of the more rational retorts to this double-standard argument I've seen. Well stated.

And costs like 75,000. No thanks.

That’s about the same as the range for a gas truck

The kicker is towing though. If you can tow and still get 250-300 that would be solid

Agreed. I'm not sure why they can't just build them to look like a regular truck.

For people who commute to and from work and need to bring home a sheet of plywood every now and then, this will be more than adequate. If that's not you, then this isn't made for you.

The push is not to supply an adequate vehicle for those people. The push is to get everybody in an EV within 20 years or some such ridiculous deadline.

What if those people commuting to work live in apartments jammed together with 300 of their closest friends? What if they live in an RV camp? trailer park?

It's done on purpose to make then distinctly different. They don't want them to look the same.

I have a Lightning. It hauls mulch like a beech. My boat never leaved the boat lift so no towing. If I had to haul to the coast I'd would have bought an ICE.

Just looking at pickups, there are 48 million in the US. 1% of that is 480,000. When EVs are mandated what will that half a million people do? Eat shite?

LINK

There are also close to 100 million vans and SUVs - another million people will need to eat shite?

Awesome. This is a great ALTERNATIVE.

Listen up government and soy boys:

The entire mid-chassis between the tires will be batteries. They aren't made of unicorn farts and fairy dust. It takes a shite-load of earth-destroying to get here. And they won't last forever meaning they'll have to be disposed of at some point. So leave ICE vehicles alone and let the market dictate production, and it will.

Time to full charge on supercharger…30 minutes

quote:

In a recent interview with GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft, Chevy Silverado EV Executive Chief Engineer Josh Tavel addressed range estimates for the all-electric pickup while towing a trailer.

According to Tavel, “EVs aren’t too different from ICE vehicles, so they’ll typically lose 25 percent on the highway towing.”

quote:

Estimated range-per-charge for both 2024 Chevy Silverado EV trim levels is set at 400 miles. Both trim levels also feature public DC fast-charge capabilities up to 350kW, which is estimated to add upwards of 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Also of note is the onboard PowerBase charging system on offer, which includes up to 10 outlets and 10.2 kW of electricity to juice everything from worksite tools to recreational toys.

It's really amazing the mileage they can get out of an EV truck.

They'll just bully the manufacturers into doing it. They already are pretty much.
quote:

The Environmental Protection Agency announced two proposed rules Wednesday designed to ensure that 67% of new passenger cars and 25% of heavy trucks sold in the U.S. are all-electric by 2032, in the latest push from the Biden Administration to reduce planet-warming emissions by pivoting to electric vehicles.

quote:

The agency is not mandating a certain number of electric cars be sold, but is setting tighter pollution standards for new cars and trucks with model years between 2027 and 2032, in essence pushing carmakers to sell a lot more electric vehicles in order to meet the new emissions standards.

The standards for emissions are based on the size and type of vehicle being built, and the EPA says most companies will have to produce 67% all-electric cars to follow the new rules, but the standards also allow automakers to find other ways to meet the emissions rules.

I remember this argument being used early on during the "Global Pandemic" that the vaccine wouldn't be mandated.
