Various 50 to 80 mile one week ventures in the Adirondack high peaks region. This was years and years ago.

It is a dream of mine to hike the AT. I don't know how these people find the time. I feel like there is a small window when you're young when you can do it before life gets too in the way.

If I understand correctly, the demographics of thru-hikers there are usually young men (recent high school or college grads) and retired men.

SOBO means southbound

Jargon for trails such as the PCY and AT that run north/south.

There is someone on the board here who has through hiked the AT.

I believe homemade wonderlust has also done the PCT.

I havent done anything too crazy, 103 miles total, one trip. My wife, daughter and I hike the AT in North GA at least 2-3 times a month with anywhere from 12-18 miles each trip. Wife and I are doing Tour Du Mont Blanc in August 110 miles

who did the whole Appalachian Trail.

I always wondered how one pulls this and similar length trails off?

Obviously, they are unemployed or "self employed/trust fund" kids.

I assume they are single or not in a meaningful relationship as well.

I have done numerous week long hikes. I am planning on doing a 750 mile hike in approximately 45 -50 days sometime in the next few years . My limitation is physical though. The key for me is at about the hour mark, getting off my feet for about five minutes. I have to relieve that constant back compression. Shikoku Henro. Google it. I have a buddy that has agreed to do it with me it’s just a matter of when. I average about 5.5 miles per day now and have done it pretty much since I moved to Colorado in 93. Mostof my vacations have involved long walks/ hikes- it’s what I really enjoy.

I haven't done anything long at all. One of the longer hikes I've done is Fairyland Loop in Bryce Canyon. Gay sounding trail but an awesome one. Only about 7.5 miles I think. Going do some more hiking in Utah in June in Capital Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands. Planning to do the Four Pass Loop next year.

I'd like to do the French Way of St James. Not a hard hike by any means, just looks interesting.

I've done a good bit of the GSMNP AT. Have no real interest to do the other portions. Doing much of the PCT doesn't look like a possibility.

Springer Mountain to Bly Gap, 79 miles. Took 6 days, but half of the last day was just waiting on my ride to take me back to my jeep. I was also 18 at the time and in a whole lot better shape than I am now.

Does a 20mile night march count? Also, hiked the Wild Azalea Trail in Kisathie. It's about 27 miles, It can be done in one day, but you would be a tired little puppy. We did about 18 miles the first day, but stopped around 2pm mainly because we reached our staged vehicle with the tents and beer, so we set up camp and started drinking. Finished Sunday morning.

20 miles on St. Tammany trace trail. It was 104 degrees when we finished. Much harder than a marathon. And I've done a bunch of those.

I read about an 80 year old man that has paddled the entire Mississippi River, hiked the AT, and plans to do the Missouri River and PCT. He's doing it to raise money for charity. Here's his website. Grey Beard

I hope I'm still this active at 80. I'd love to do the AT when I retire, hopefully I'm still healthy enough to do it.

Cross Baranof trail. Roughly 28 miles across Baranof Island and it took 3 days. There's a couple of ice fields and a big lake that slows you down

Chilkoot Trail. 2 1/2 day, 40 miles. Really cool historic trans boundary trail.

Did 13 Days/108 miles through the mountains in New Mexico ranging in elevation from 6,000'-12,200'.

Really makes you appreciate the wild, clean water, hot showers, toilets, and warm food.
