Put everything in pods and have pods sent to Colorado Springs.

We did it ourselves from LA to DC and then back from Virginia to LA. Used movers to load the truck but then drove ourselves and hauled a car. dad flew to Virginia and helped drive van and other car with wife and kids. Cheaper but not recommended unless you’re crazy like us.

What movers did you use in DC? I’m about to do the opposite and move to DC. I have people to help load the truck, but need movers to unload in DC.

Try Movex.

You load and pack yourself. The truck arrives several days later and you unload yourself.

How much stuff you got and do you have a truck? Trailers are much cheaper in the south. I bought a 24' enclosed car hauler in LA, loaded everything up and pulled it up to MT. Sold it for same price I paid. Probably could have sold it for a little more but wanted to get rid of it quickly.

Another option I've done before...buy a used cargo truck and sell it once you're done. I got a good condition 15 year old 24' truck with 76k miles for $8k and sold for same.

Either way, if you have the cash to purchase one, you're really not spending anything besides travel expenses (fuel, hotels, etc) because you'll get the money back when you sell.

To compare...I had Mayflower move us from LA to VA, including moving a car, and it cost $10k. And we packed everything ourselves. Same trip in reverse (without car) with PODS a couple years later cost us $5k.

You might try U-Pack, they specialize in long-distance moves.

They drop a semi trailer off, give you up to 3 business days to load, then they deliver the trailer to the new location and then you have 3 more days to unload.

For long moves it's probably cheaper than Uhaul and less headache cause you don't have to drive the truck.

That's what I did when I moved up here. Saved a ton of money doing it that way too.

Highly recommend *not* going with the con artists who try to sell you space on a truck. They always underestimate how much space you'll really need and the final bill is always far higher than you expected. I didn't fall for this but know someone who did and it bit him for a few thousand.
