I should clarify, I’ve lived in BR for a long time and I fricking loathe this city. What I’m really looking for is justification to bounce.

You have your answer. Unless you have legal/family obligations, you don't need another reason.

It's really more of an open jam session with different musicians playing guitar, drums, bass, etc.

Good shite. I'm gonna have to go check it out. Been playing my whole life and I have about 500 stage hours from when I played with a band. Recently hopped back on the kit about 2 years ago and I've knocked the rust off. Would be a blast to go hop in for a song and enjoy the other music

Baton Rouge is worse. But what I really hate is how Baton Rouge fricks up travel on the interstate. Baton Rouge isn't a major city that merits fricking up the interstate.

Baton Rouge is MUCH worse. So much of what used to be OK areas in BR have turned into the hood and its getting worse all the time.

They both have crappy city governments.
Yes, Lafayette has crappy city govt. But there's no comparison to Baton Rouge and the SWB regime.

Baton Rouge is better than Lafayette.

ETA: the only people who like Lafayette are 1. Those who have never left Lafayette and 2. Those who think Lafayette only exists during Festival International.

Baton Rouge is arguably better for a single person due to a better bar and restaurant scene, but that’s arguable. Despite being a significantly smaller city and metro area, Lafayette’s post-college single women population isn’t that much smaller than BR’s yet has consistently higher quality. Lafayette is also unarguably waaaaaaaaaay better for families.

don't like celebrating New Year's Eve at 9am because McComb goes to sleep by 10am (or sooner). Family there left our wedding reception at 9am for same reason. Party animals...

Surely you mean pm

By a significant margin. Both my and my wife's families are still in Lafayette, so we go back fairly often. It sucks.

I like the fat cat blues jam way better than the Phil Brady’s one. Phil’s starts too late and is super cliquey. If you’re not one of their ancient regulars, you won’t get a chance to play before 1:00am most nights.

I could see it being a bit harder to find a friend crowd in Lafayette if you are an outsider as a lot of people there are born and raised there. With that said, Lafayette has a lot friendly folks. Baton Rouge is a bit more of a regional melting pot because of LSU, so a lot of folks who may not be originally from Baton Rouge.

There's plenty of factors where Lafayette trumps, but Lafayette wins out on the boudin & cracklins alone.
