The dog was in a drain like this
The owner said the dog was in the backyard and wandered off. Dog was deaf and probably got disoriented. Probably had dogzheimers.

Hero of that segment was the black dude who actually got the noose around the dogs neck to pull her thru the drain pipe.

Maybe the dog knew it's time was near and was going off to die alone. I think it's better, though, that at least it was safe and as comfortable as possible with the family.
