see, I will teach my boys different. To recognize the weaker and help them if they can, because sometimes winning does matter and sometimes what matters is being a bigger man. I suppose I just don't classify a Little League scrimmage as a life and death kinda event, if you do, I see where our differences lie.

helping those weaker than you isa great lesson.

however, when someone else takes the field of glorious combat (i.e., sport) against you, you should win....otherwise, why play?

Being a good person doesnt mean you have to be a bitch on the field.

Yep, and imagine how good those kids felt after winning only 1 game last year. Then think about the coaches and parents yelling and cursing from the other team.

Yep, bigger people.....what a joke.

Sounds like the league isn't competitive and you didn't realize that.

Well, that is football. Football is life, and we will step on their throats teach em what is what.

you have a hard time staying on topic.

It is Little League. The best players are either developmentally ahead or have a advantageous birthday. Usually nothing more. The best coaches and the best leagues concentrate on developing these kids equally so that when they are older and games are competitive you have kept as many as possible interested and engaged.

To clarify, you are talking about the over-zealous parent that started cursing?

Hell yeah you're in the right. Little League is very competitive, and you were right to try and find and correct the problem (of losing). Don't think the other team would have let up on you. If they would have, your team wouldn't have lost so many games last year.

You may have slacked off on the stealing when the game was sealed, but I bet those kids were having FUN stomping that arse.

Hope you get to coach again. Sounds like you're what the team needs.

no...he meant the coach who helped his kids win and dint curse. He was the "bad" person because he didnt "play the right way" and have the other team win.

I don't know, is that the question that was asked in the OP?

Lets see.

Nope, that wasn't the topic. Do you and Cpt need some comprehension lessons?

Didnt read all the replies. But to start with, it must not be a legit league to have 9 and 10 year olds playing with 12 year olds!!! some 12 year olds are shaving! its an exceptional 10 year old that can play with 12 year olds. I would guess its just a fake league made up and not real. Or they are just desperate because of all the different leagues now a days taking the talent in 50 different directions! And no, u were not in the wrong, just tacky.

Update #1

I had one of the parents on my team give me a call today. She said that her son has been saying for the last three days that Saturday was the greatest thing that ever happened to him. She also continued on saying that her son (who is extremely small and impoverished) never had anything good ever happen to him and was thinking about joining the Barrio Aztecas in order to gain some sort of acceptance. She said thanks to me she believes that her son has reason to believe and have hope now and she hopes he won't fall into the life his father did. Made me very proud!

Update #2

A local travel team has asked me to coach their team and offered to pay me $40 a game as the catching and hitting coach. I am moving soon so I told them I would volunteer my time because I like helping kids be successful.

You got too greedy, OP. This thread was on its way to 40 pages just fine with the setup you already had.

It's going to fizzle out a lot quicker now.

I began volunteering with this team last season. I am the assistant coach technically speaking, however a friend of mine is the head coach but doesn’t know jack about baseball. He is of the mentality it doesn’t matter as long as the kids are having fun. With that being said the team only won 1 game last season. This team is made up of a bunch of undersized 9-12 year olds that are required to play station to station baseball.

Yesterday he called me and told me he was going to miss the game because he was sick. It was the first scrimmage game of the season against one of the better teams in the league. Immediately upon watching infield/outfield I noticed a weakness. As with most kids that age the catcher’s ability to throw out runners is questionable at best. Once the game started every time I got a runner on base I called in the steal and we were successful 15/15 times. The opposing coach was yelling at me from the other dugout the entire game calling my way of playing “cowardly.” They had to use 5 different pitchers throughout the 5 innings and the catcher ended up quitting in the middle of the game. The kid’s father was cursing me out from the bleachers. Anyways, we ended up ten run ruling one of the better teams in the league and all my players got a piece of the action.

After the game we went to Peter Piper Pizza and the kids thought I was Joe Torre or something. While we are there I get a call from the league president saying I am banned from the league for embarrassing another team by stealing bases up by 10 runs, continuing to take pitches on 3-0 counts up by ten runs, and continuing to hit and run when up by ten runs.

Did you teach them how to talk shite on the field too? Because that's just as classy.

People tend to forget that one of the most important things in winning is HOW you win. You are (or were) in a position to teach the kids that just because you can skull-frick your opponents, you don't always need to. You had a chance to teach them about sportsmanship and instead you taught them how to be dicks.

Congrats on exemplifying what's wrong with sports today.

Honestly these kids just need to have fun and learn the basics. Once they turn 13-14 then gradually build their speed, strength, coordination etc.

There's always that one parent that pushes their kid too hard and then will need tommy John surgery
