How much do you have? And are you single or married? How much should a single person have as compared to married with kids?

Married, 3 kids. I have $500K, husband has the same but had to get an additional $1mil policy due to a loan that he takes out every year (he's a farmer, hence the crop loan).

Very Unofficial rule of thumb (simple estate, etc) is 7 to 10 times salary if married w/kids

About 10 times your income so your family can use that to replace your income. If you're single there's really no need except maybe a small amount to cover funeral expenses.

Hows things in Maurice/Meaux these days?

$400k, married, no kids. Have a mortgage. Wife works, and has considerably more than me (her dad is an agent ). Will bump it up when we have kids.

Wife and I each have $500k Term...no kids.
Agent keeps wanting us to switch it to a whole policy, but I'm not stupid.

Why would a single person without kids have life insurance?

To get rated better in order to convert it later.
Term has no cash value, so the younger you get it, the better and cheaper it is to convert later.
Also, student loans and other debt.
