Do you people really need guidance from a random message board on what decision to make with regards to actual life changing decisions including whether to get divorced, quit a job, accept a job, move to another city/state etc? Or are you just looking for attention. I can understand asking for feedback on which new BBQ grill to buy but I can't ever imagine not having enough sense and confidence to make my own decision and instead asking a bunch or random people on a message board what to do. Do you not have some few trusted friends and family to talk to things about? It's crazy what you ask others about what YOU should do.

End Rant.

I don’t do anything without asking the OT first

I do just for the attention.

But also sometimes advice from independent, anonymous people is helpful.

I got good advice on not fricking up things with a great lady. I also got a lot of comments that made me laugh.

You're missing the point.

By asking, if it doesn't work out, now you have someone to blame besides yourself.

Getting opinions from here is a great resource. You should take it with a grain of salt obviously.

But you could get some really solid advice about the situation you didn't foresee coming from such a thread.

Just do it and then use the information however you see fit.

I enjoy reading the threads asking for advice. There are some genuine people who give feedback, and a whole lot of people having fun screwing with the OP.

The best advice is usually, “Delete this thread and get a lawyer.”

It’s a free poll from unbiased people. You going to ask your wife that “knows” what’s right for everything or the OT?

Usually, of course not. But I appreciate the tricky situations questions that folks here raise from time to time.

I think this is your way of crying out for help.

What is wrong with getting other perspectives that maybe you would have not thought about?

I doubt the hinge their decision on the OT, but additional input is not usually a bad thing.

I'm always open to the possibility that I'm wrong and so looking at others perspectives has limited downside imho. But I do place a higher weighting on the perspective of friends/mentors that I know in real life.

I asked the Money Board for advice around 7 years ago. I was in a difficult situation and had no clue what to do.

Looking back, I wish I had asked friends or family. I was just too embarrassed. But I knew also that a message board wouldn’t care much about me and might give me objective advice. No one knew me and could focus on the details of the issue.

Nowadays, I feel more confident in making decisions for myself. I was just really immature and naive back then.

On another note, message boards are a collection of people with different perspectives. It can be a good location to discover details you might not have considered or been exposed to with just a few trusted people in real life.

It's good to hear perspectives. Sometimes it's something you'd never consider.

Sometimes the opinion of a stranger with essentially zero ties to you, no skin in the game, and little prior knowledge can give some honest insight.

Sometimes they'll tell you what you don't want to hear

Sometimes it will just be funny and make the rest of us laugh. Sometimes we're asking ourselves the same sorts of questions but don't know how to ask it.

Glad you have your life 100% on track and never need advice or just to vent.

i made a post here about my (suspected) borderline wife seeking info / insight on this mental illness. i got a lot of really good genuine responses, and i got a lot of funny responses. i think getting information from a board like this is a good resource (assuming you are a rational adult who can take everything with a grain of salt).

I get your bit of sarcasm but I'm honestly amazed at how many people in this world don't seem to have the self confidence to be able to just make a decision on their own. I can't stand feeble minded people who always need some affirmation from others before deciding what do to.

There does not seem to be a situation, illness, or location on the globe that someone on the OT cant provide direct knowledge about. In responding to these questions people love to share their experience and knowledge too, they also like to shite all over the original poster as well.
