Unless of course you yourself don't know how to read a map
Why have a map when you can just use your phone? That's like saying we don't need a vacuum cleaner because we have a broom.

Same.
It’s interesting, once two of our oldest left the house, we told them they could turn it off if they wanted. They both said, “but how would we be able to know where you are”?

I get it for young kids, but I have some friends with their college kids on the tether, which I think is very weird.

Seriously. Agree with you. It shouldn’t be a problem if you don’t have anything to hide. I could care less if she sees where I’m am. Nothing to hide.

Having/developing a solid sense of direction without relying on a device can be valuable. Even in 2024.

One of those things where it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
If you have the self-control, you don't even need to open the app to track your spouses, kids, etc., and can still let them have all of the independence that they want.
My kids are still young, so no need to worry about tracking them just yet, but I could see it being a good tool for when they are teenagers.
My wife and I have it on each other's phones. My wife is in home health and can travel into some sketchy neighborhoods, so it's good to know we have the ability to find her should anything crazy happen. I probably only open the app once a month, if that, but my wife is checking daily to see how long it will be before I get home after work.
You're already being tracked by pretty much everything else on your phone, anyway.

But a kid I know who wrecked his motorcycle and was laying unconscious for a couple hours was found via Life 360. So I guess we balance privacy with safety.
It has active crash detection and will alert people if you are in an accident. It's worth it, in my opinion. I don't give a shite if someone tracks me, I don't do any dumb shite to care.

I actually feel safer that my location is always known to my spouse. It's not about lack of trust or taking away independence, it's just really convenient to know where your people are. To me it gives my teen more independence because he doesn't have to check in with me on whereabouts as often.
When I am out shopping/estate sales/wandering aimlessly I want my husband to be able to find me if I end up in a car accident or something.

If you have nothing to hide then why do you need to be tracked? Why doesn't your wife trust you?

We have it. I don’t have any problem with my family knowing where I am.
I also like to be able to check where my teenage son is if he’s running late to wherever he’s going.
If you’re not up to shady shite I don’t see the problem with it.

My grown kids all share location with each other. They did it on a group vacation and never turned it off. Apparently none of them do sketchy things

Do y'all have dementia or something?
My parents are in their 60s and I can't think of a single time I've needed to know their exact location in real time.

What kind of nut job is okay with being tracked 100% of the time.
Do you have a cell phone? How about an iPhone specifically? Is today opposite day where we pretend we aren't already being tracked everywhere?
I'd rather my family know where I am in case of an accident rather than not. The government already knows where you are at any given moment.

Did something bad happen as a kid when the location of a parent wasn't constantly available?

Maybe if you baws did a better job parenting you wouldn’t want to track your kids
