A. Is that true?

Yes, but you have to be careful as you can hurt your gums being too aggressive.

B. Do I have to get the fancy $75 brand name or are there some cheaper competitor brands you can recommend?

No. You can get whatever the $40 brand name one is.

As for my oral hygiene routine, I brush every morning and evening, plus sometimes right after work if I've eaten something sugary or have drunk a cup of coffee. Always floss at night before brushing. But I feel it's not enough, I googled and found nice tips on oral hygiene here. I'm going to add Listerine (once a day, at night)

What?

You’ve never heard of a water pick? Good Lord.

I use one OP and it’s great.

sonicare toothbrush and waterpik with an inch of listerine (or equate knockoff) mouthwash in the water. bi-annual cleanings and no problems for years.

It could be the his teeth are a little more separated than yours. Almost all might teeth are tight and I cant imagine not flossing. I have a small gap in two of my lower that I really dont have to floss (but do) and I can see if all my teeth were that way, flossing might be unneccessary
