The key word is neonates. A ton of kids are being circumcised as infants (after 28 days).

No one remembers getting circumcised when they are just born so it might feel uncomfortable for a few mins for the kid (at most maybe?) its not something they will remember. But I am coming to realize that it really doesn't matter either way,

They don't remember... per se.

Do you believe we are affected by things from our childhoods that we don't remember clearly or at all? Experience shapes a human being... even the ones we've blocked out or are blotted from our minds by time.

eta... is it okay to inflict unnecessary offense to a person just because they won't recall it later?

Fresh on planet Earth, knowing nothing but warmth and snugness- to be splayed out under bright lights, handled with gloved hands and cold instruments- then cut... of course he suffers.

Not how it’s done now for what it’s worth. It’s generally done a few days or weeks later at the pediatrician’s office nowadays. Quick local injection and a device that looks a whole lot like a fancy cigar cutter

My boys were all in and out in less than five minutes with no crying/screaming from it

Even with a kinder, gentler way- there is still offense to the body and resulting discomfort and pain and soreness.

If babies could speak, they'd tell us what it's like... but they can't, so we just assume they're fine with it.

Good question and the answer is obviously no, but would you consider getting circumcised similar to getting ears pierced?

Not saying I agree with you on the circumcision point specifically, but I caught up with the thread and i understand where you’re coming from.

Should be good news for my future son getting laid for not having an anteater cock.

You came in late... I've already said infant ear piercings are barbaric.

My daughter wanted her ears pierced around 9 or 10... we made her wait a few weeks, pinched her a couple of times to simulate the pain of it... lectured her on the healing process and hygiene required.. then let her do it once she knew it would hurt, it would be sore, she had to clean them despite the soreness and turn them daily.

I would not consider it too similar to infant circumcision though... poking a hole is far different from removing a loop of skin. But, close enough. I disavow both methods of altering an infant.

And that is the point of discussion and debate. btw, I ain't your downvoter- I really enjoy having conversations with others who don't agree with me. Thank you for engaging and talking with me.

Boy, lemme tell you... nipple piercings are 575 times worse in regards to pain. Holy moly it is awful.

So children shouldn't have tubes put in their ears? They should just suffer from ear infections?

Oh my God. Were you actually pleased with yourself for proffering this trite flawed analogy?

He's on our side.

Has to be.

Basically made the argument against routine infant circumcision.

Whose job is it to count?

Job cut…coming.

Time to trim the fat.

Just too easy.

What if having an anteater suddenly becomes fashionable with the ladies tho?

You’re looking at a board based in the Southern US, where white men are almost universally circumcised. Their (and my) children are also almost universally circumcised.
I’m white - my whole family is white - my husband is white - his family is white

None of the males in his family or mine are circumcised - so I don’t think your whole southern US white male thing is as sound as you think - my family is from Texas & Louisiana - my husband’s is from Louisiana

Unless you mean it may be a wasp thing - because we are all white Catholics
