I figure since everyone always has fun piling on us Catholics during Lent and Christmas and Easter why not have our own thread.

Yes, the church is more filled with PFG and Columbia shirt and 'good jeans' during these times.

Yes, we are hypocrites pointing out the sins of others while we ourselves are sinners.

Yes, there were and still are very evil men that are leaders in the Catholic church.

This holy season of lent is set aside for us sinners to refocus and remind ourselves that we should strive to enter the narrow gate.

Psalm 51

quote:

Have mercy on me, God, in accord with your merciful love;
in your abundant compassion blot out my transgressions.
Thoroughly wash away my guilt;
and from my sin cleanse me.
For I know my transgressions;
my sin is always before me

Who cares what people wear to church?

You sure you go to a Catholic Church and not a Baptist one?

Y’all shouldn’t beat yourselves up for this. Everything happens for a reason and because of God’s will. He put them there for a reason and we cannot understand his will!

I don't beat myself up about it but I will own it.

I have 5 copies of Bishop Robber Barron's book, "Letter to a suffering church" I am willing to ship to whoever asks. It's a beautiful discussion that is open and honest.

You forget to mention all the children fricked by priests.

It kills me that I was born into this ridiculous cult.

I'd be happy to send you a copy of the book I mentioned, if you promise to read it. I'm not hiding from the sexual abuse problems... I mentioned it in the OP.

And the Catholic guilt is the worst. It's pretty hard to shake.

Lent follows Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras, a time set aside to sin all you want with no consequences. After Fat Tuesday, you get ashes rubbed on your forehead and all is forgiven. Very hypocritical, but rich....

Unfortunately the Roman Catholics are terrible when it comes to understanding and explaining God's sovereignty.

Father Schmidt called "the cross" plan B for crying out loud! It clearly was not a backup plan according to Scripture.

That being said, both Barron and Riccardo say some great practical things.

This is antiquated fundamental Baptist stereotypes of Roman Catholicism. It's superficial at best.

While true, we should strive, I don't think our striving is the basis on which we get in.
