No. My scenario is hypothetical. My guy lives on Social Security.

I started one when my dad went to MD anderson. He and my mom are both retired. They have great insurance, but on top of bills they had here, they also had living expenses there as well. I started one only because i didn't have time to arrange a fundraiser (which was my first choice). Parking is $25 a day, plus 1300 for living, plus food, gas, other misc expenses. He was supposed to be there 60 days. He didn't make it past day 4. I cut the gofundme way short of the 10k goal since my mom would now have life insurance. The couple thousand we raised in 2 days my mom donated to a charity.

I know someone who started a Go Fund Me to have his car repainted. He would say “donate NOW” on FB. I checked a couple of weeks later and he had $0.00 donations.

sick kid, maybe house fire, i'm ok with contributing to a kid from a broken home that has earned his way to compete "out of state" but doesn't have the family support... I personally dont mind helping that.

You bring up an interesting point about GFM- there is no “donor bill of rights” and even though you set it up as being for a certain purpose, it’s still an unrestricted gift. Not saying I disagree with what you/your mom did with the funds, but I’m not sure how I’d feel knowing the money didn’t go to what was on the page originally.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad.

In my scenario he is. Understand that any similarity to real people, living or dead, is a coincidence.

In my scenario, the neighbor that lost his mind explains to the press why he attacked. He may also have a limp.

i get it. it was a weird place to be for her. we discussed it all. ultimately we all thought it would go towards helping them in Houston. That was cut way short and now there is 4k that was meant to go towards something it's now unable to. My mom isn't the type, nor is our family, to just pocket the money. My dad had life insurance to pay for funeral expenses. she didnt tell me where it went exactly but im pretty sure it went to st jude or cancer research since thats what my dad died from.

I'm sure those that gave know/love/trust your family no matter where the funds went especially considering the unplanned outcome.

Your experience with it just brought up the idea of GFM in general almost having a false pretense of a restricted gift when it's not. I think there's an assumption that once you click donate, your control ends though.
