My only question, which bathrooms will get them?

BATON ROUGE–The House passed a bill 79-17 Wednesday that would provide free menstrual products to students in public schools.

House Bill 117 would require public schools to provide free tampons and pads in easily accessible locations. Charter schools are exempt from the bill. The funding for the products would come from the state’s general fund. Schools may provide the products in bathrooms, offices or other locations. The first year of funding also would include providing dispensers for products.

Lacey Gero, manager of state policy for Alliance for Period Supplies, spoke at a hearing in April.

“Two in five women struggle to purchase period products due to lack of income,” Gero said. “This is called period poverty.”

Period poverty is one of the leading causes of truancy for young girls. According to one study, one in four students struggle to afford menstrual products.

I don't have a problem with this.

I'm sure the local plumbers unions are all for this bill as well.

In all the things our tax money ends up going towards, I have no issue with this and would fully support it if Kentucky came up with this bill.

When I worked in a high school, I regularly bought period products out of my own pocket for the kids at work. The ones the school supplied were out of stock half of the time and shitty. This shouldn't be any different than providing toilet paper.

Public schools provide toilet paper to students to utilize during the school day.

Again, this is no different.

What about all the other stuff? Or is your period equivalent to going to the bathroom?

I don't have a problem with this bill,I guess. But I find it impossible to believe 40% of women who menustrate "struggle to purchase period products." That's like those PSA radio ads that wretched Savannah Guthrie does, "1 out of 6 children go to bed hungry." Really? Just how does this happen? There are welfare food stamps, community food banks. Can't these kids' parents or guardians step and do ANYTHING BY THEMSELVES???

In the ways that matter for this conversation, yes, it is.

How? If anything, stopping a bleed while at school would seem better served by a trip to the nurse's office.

I'll take your lack of response as a response.

I have no problem with the bill, just not sure it is 40%...or that someone has a job to address this. School girls are tough enough years to live, no need to make it worse by someone not being able to address this.

Pretending that you don't know anything about periods isn't worth an actual response.

Periods don't involve bleeding? Wow, maybe I don't know anything about periods.
