Legally blind at 96, West Palm woman still bowls 200+ scores

quote:
Robinson, who turns 97 next Friday, has been bowling since she was 37. Her first husband died in a car crash a year earlier and her kids were looking for something to do.
“We had so much fun, we started going every Sunday afternoon.”
Sixty years later, she’s still going strong, though she’s lost all sight in one eye and most in the other. She had a high score of 202 last year. This year, she bowled a 183 — a disappointing drop for her — but the year’s not over.
quote:
Wearing loose, faded blue jeans and a blue-and-white striped shirt, she walks up to the lane and hoists her ball from the rack. She positions her feet by the dots on the floor and focuses as best she can on the arrow markers a few feet ahead.
With a fluid motion she winds up and hurls the 12-pound ball. It heads right, then reliably breaks left and arcs into the headpin.
Bam! Strike! She pumps her fist in the air. High fives all around.

She looks great for a 96 year old, good for her
Your feel good story for the day

Amazing.
Although legally blind doesn't nessarily mean that you're completely blind or unable to see. Just to clarify it because a lot of people don't realize that.

Agreed, I don't know of any 90 year olds that bowl though which is the incredible thing to me

She looks very good for 97. Strong, not overly thin. She has many years left! Good for her!!

Uses a heavier ball than 85% of the OT.

You don’t have to lie; she’s not reading this.

This is how everyone should bowl. If you're looking at the pins you're doing it wrong.
That's what a friend told me anyway. I wouldn't know myself because bowling is trashy.

South Florida? She likely drives herself to the bowling alley.

A 97 year old slingin a 12 pound rock is really impressive. I used to work the lanes while in college and those old ladies were usually chuckin 8 or 10 pounders.
