Pot may be on its way to beating pop. (Editor’s note: Yes, we know it’s called “soda” out here on the West Coast, but we didn’t want to mess with this writer’s lead.) The U.S. legal cannabis industry is expected to reach $75 billion in sales by 2030, according to research firm Cowen & Co. That’s almost as large as the North American carbonated soft drink market in 2017.

quote:

With the industries’ diverging trajectories, weed may be poised to take the mantle as the larger industry. Cannabis is growing rapidly as more states legalize the plant. Nine states and Washington, D.C. now allow for recreational pot use. That means more than one in five American adults can smoke, vape, eat or drink it however they please. Cowen previously predicted that the market, assuming federal legalization, would reach $50 billion by 2026. That seems small now, according to analyst Vivien Azer.

It’s “coke.” Not “soda” or “pop.”

States are retarded not to legalize it all the way. It's absurd that the most lethal and dangerous drug known as alcohol is legal while something as harmless as pot is illegal.

I don't smoke pot by the way, I just call BS when I see it.

Although they’re clearly different, in the 90s, states were hesitant to legalize the lottery due to morality/impact on those addicted to gambling. Ultimately, most states would and used the increased funds for a lot of state-backed higher education scholarships for kids to stay instate.

I think over time the tax revenue benefits will slowly overcome state concerns and legalization will occur across the nation.

A solid argument can be made that gambling is far more harmful to a person / families than pot. In reality there should be no need for an argument at all over which one causes more damage.

False. almost all increased revenue from lottery sales towards education were offset by diverting matching funds from education into other projects

Yet, we're on the verge of legalizing sports gambling. That's ok, because it doesn't bother maw maw and paw paw as much.

Have they studied the correlation in sales of junk food to legal weed yet?
