So driving in the left lane as fast as legally possible is wrong, but putting me and my child in danger by illegally driving 100mph is ok? Let's not pretend that Louisiana drivers are capeable of driving safely at high speeds, on subpar roadways.

Neither is okay. Stay out of the left lane except to pass regardless of what speed you are traveling. It's really that simple.

I agree. I always use the proper lane. I just think its funny that people bitching about others thinking they "own the road", are the ones that ultimately think they own the road.

Left-lane driving and not getting over to faster traffic

Is what that should say. Nothing wrong with going the speed limit in the left lane as long as you are passing and as long as there isn't someone faster behind you.

Same thing applies no matter what speed you are going.

And for frick's sake learn that the mirrors on your car are for observing shite behind you. Maybe adapt the rear camera to notify dumbass drivers that shite is coming up on them from the rear.

I use whatever lane is available to me to pass people. I'm not waiting around for some slow arse to go 70.01 to pass someone good 70. I'm sure plenty of people bitch about me driving like an a-hole, but probably 90% of it could be avoided if they moved over

If I'm in the left lane doing 70, passing someone doing 60, and a fool doing 90 barrels up behind me, they can just slow down a little. I'll get over when I'm done passing the first guy.

The real idiots are the ones that just camp out in the left lane.

Why wouldn't you speed up a little bit to pass the guy going 60? Seems like common courtesy. What if his wife is going into labor and you're just taking your sweet time to prove a point?

He is. That's what he's talking about. How about you drop it down a few mph, Dale Jr? Being a dick and right up on somebody's arse like that when they're trying to do the right thing is an a-hole thing to do.

Funny you mention this. I just got back from a little trip on I-66 inside the Beltway. As is common, there were three cars all doing about 50mph in the left lane in a little line.

So of course I passed them in the right lane. As I cleared the line one of the three drivers suddenly realized he was in the left lane and switched, blocking traffic and cutting off the guy behind *me* who was also trying to pass. Poor guy had to suddenly slam on the brakes to avoid rear-ending the dumbass who didn't know how to use his mirrors.

Not only that, it can be dangerous b/c it increases traffic congestion and the potential for a collision.

I'll be passing you at most about 10mph faster, I try to be careful around slow drivers b/c they're so unpredictable.

If you want to keep your family safe, pay attention to what is going on in front *and* behind you.

If you're going slower than the guy behind you then you should get out of the way. You should be trying to not impede other drivers.

And if you are going 70 to pass someone going 60 and a car going 90 is already on your arse then you should not have gotten in the left lane in the first place. Or did you not look to see if someone driving faster was coming up in the left lane, effectively cutting them off.

For me it is one of the most frustrating things about driving. I spend nearly as much time watching the traffic behind me as I do the traffic in front me in an attempt to get a feel for the traffic flow.

Here in Cameroon I have to be always aware of what's going on behind me because motorcycle taxis will overtake you while you're about to make a turn and you're in constant danger of taking them out. Of course they are never at fault.

Another way to look at it is that the guy/girl going 90 shouldn't be going 90 in the first place. Why do we always conveniently gloss over that little tidbit in these debates?

Drivers in particular parts of the world have very poor situational awareness. I bet you would be one of the people who jump on the bandwagon of having elderly drivers retake driving exams. I propose we improve the driving standards to include things like 360 awareness of your driving environment. shite doesn't always come from in front you.

If someone is going 90mph in decent traffic, in a 70mph zone, they deserve to get blocked in because they are an a-hole. If the road is clear, that's another story, less people for their dumbass to kill.

Yeah, let's cater to the guy committing an arrestable offense...

How does moving the USA on top of Europe help traffic?

Not sure.

But widening a lot of the major truck routes like I-40 and I-10 to 6 lanes and restricting trucks from the inside lanes would make a HUGE difference.

I think cops should enforce driving in the left lane more than they do. If no one is being punished for driving in the left lane, then nothing is going to push people out of that lane.
