Lawnmower repair - Could someone ask their landscape architect how to fix this issue?

My lawnmower is running extremely loud as if it's about to explode. I'm using the correct gas and the oil was changed a few weeks ago. The filter is dirty, but I'm not sure that would solve the issue.

Your sucking in exhaust through the air filter

Push mower? Is it surging and vibrating a lot at idle? Did you run over something that stopped your blade cold like a rock or a pipe?
if so, you might have bent the crankshaft, and you're looking at some money to fix it.

I don't think a landscape architect would know the first thing about small engine repair.
Bring it to a lawnmower shop.

get some carb or brake cleaner and clean all the throttle linkage...sounds like the govenor (which is hooked to that) is not working right.could just be dirt build up.

Ask your boyfriend to inspect the muffler
I'm sure his boyfriend "inspects" his muffler quite often.

another thing-- you said you're using the correct gas, and I am guessing that means ethanol-free.
Did you use old gas from last season? Don't do that. You could try draining your bowl, and maybe clean the jets, etc. with carb cleaner. Pretty easy.

Push mower with self propelled. Not surging or vibrating at all. Just continuous, consistent evil rage noise from the mower. Still cut the yard just fine.
Haven't run over anything, no.

Cheap too. Takes frenvh fried potatoes, biscuits, and mustard in exchange for repair work

Sounds like you have a carb issue. Possible a stuck float due to bad gas causing it to rev higher.

If the RPMs feel about the same, and it’s just ‘loud’ check out your muffler... would have helped us a little bit if you were to give us the make/model of your mower
If it’s an older mower, chances are your muffler is rusted or the bolts are coming loose...
Post pics if you can
Does it start, run REALLY loud, then kill? Or does it stay running?

Run down to Bob's in Vestavia and buy you a new muffler and gasket. It shouldn't be much $.

bent crankshaft?
Does it get really hard to start again if it dies while using it?

Is the muffler rusted? The muffler is made to quiet down the exhaust noise
