While we all know the real reason she wants so badly to replace Dabadie, what is her stated basis for doing so?

Are they implying the police chief's job changes when the mayor does? The police have the same job under any administration. They exist to uphold the law why should the mayor's agenda matter?

BR City police has posted 5 retirement announcements in the last 4 days on their FB page. Also posting saying they need people to enroll in the upcoming training academy. I'm sure the local environment and new mayor have some impact in both.

Broome claims that the citizens of BR don't trust the police after the Alton Sterling shooting. She's already having a detrimental impact on the BRPD as evidenced that they can't get enough people to apply for the academy.

Is the chief elected or appointed?

I don't have a problem with this on the surface. The Chief works for the Mayor and the Mayor should be able to hire/fire as they see fit.

My issue with this is the timing as it's clearly an attempt by Broome's office to circumvent the current rules in place. I'd feel better about the law (should it pass) if it didn't go into effect until the next Mayor-President is elected.

If I am correct he can only introduce 1 bill a session.

Which one is it?

All of EBRP would be able to vote on the area called St George to become a city if the people in that area get enough signatures?

Or

This bill?

Or

Could there be a new bill next week that we did not see coming?

Seems like a waste of one bill to bring up in a legislative session?

What is her justification for wanting him out? Is it just because he's white?

I believe they can sponsor 5 bills per session.

ETA: In typical Louisiana fashion, there's varying rules for the type of bill and if it's a fiscal session or not.

Essentially....yes. But that's not the PC answer. Supposedly, they don't share the same "vision" for the BRPD. Whatever the hell that means.

Of course she is. Krista too I imagine.

All of Gravy's minions will line up to support that bill.

Broome during this past summer said that if elected, she wanted a change in leadership at BRPD. Could a bill been put out around then?

Correct.

I believe it was Democrats who pushed that legislation through to make it hard to get rid of government workers but now that it doesn't satisfy their current needs, it's an abomination. I hope it fails and SWB is forced to justify paying Dabadie 300k to buy him out.
