Pick the one that sets you up best for a corporate job --- do not go into a law firm. Try to break into a Fortune 500 company. Better pay, much better benefits and a wider variety of avenues that you can take as you advance your career. The quality of life is much better.
Litigation is a grind and at a law firm you will be a slave to the billable hour. I would not wish it on anyone. I have already told my kids (entering high school) it is not a road they want to travel. Research your options and interests in the corporate arena and choose the law school that gives you the best chance to move in that direction.

My experience is that it pretty much behooves you to go to a law firm first and then go in-house. First year in-house lawyers get paid far, far, far less than first year law firm lawyers and they advance more slowly than those lawyers that transition out of a law firm after five years or so. Is that not your experience?

Move to Texas. Particularly Houston/Austin/Dallas. And I'm serious. Houston is going fricking bananas right now.

Any of the OT lawyers work for a big firm and routinely look at resumes on a frequent basis? I'm trying to get some decent advice on where I need to improve.
I'm more than likely going to be working for Uncle Sam, but you never know.

Would require me to go to a lower-tier law school in Texas and I'm hesitant to do that. I'd be accepted to some of the better schools but likely wouldn't get any scholarships.

I don't routinely look at resumes, but I have no problem taking a look at what you've got. Maybe having some other folks look at it and give feed back.

Would you mind briefly looking through mine? Like I said, there's a > 50% chance I'll be working for the FedGov, but I want to make sure I'm spending my time wisely in law school should the FedGov route not work.
Shoot me an email at databasedesignjunk@yahoo.com if you don't care.
And yes, I know this is a weird request.

I went to a law firm and am still there. My view of the corporate world is formed from the many lawyers and non-lawyers I know. I don't think that 20 years out where you started will be a big deal in terms of advancement and neither will the first year's salary. There is no reason why you would have to stay in the law department either. The OP would have a marketing degree and a law degree. This could open a number of doors. In a law firm there are far fewer.
It is something he should investigate. Many people tell you what lawyers make but don't tell you how many times you will see 9:00 at night in your office. Or how answering the same set of form discovery for the 10,000th time will make you want to pull your hair out. An on and on. Litigation is not a very satisfying way to make a living.

Discovery is the demon spawn of Law.

Agree in theory, but tough in practice.
The idea of "in house" is different now that companies have armies of staff attorneys. Few people who went this route out of law school enjoys it very much, and most get paid 1/3 what you'd get in big law.
Oil and gas may be an exception, not sure, but people I know in big transportation and major banks are pretty miserable for pretty meager pay.
