I gave thirty days notice to an apartment that I am planning on breaking the lease. They sent me a Notice to Vacate form, where they want the address I am moving to, two months rent, and they will give me the deposit back (right). I am moving states. Will they likely just turn me into a credit agency or should I expect them to try to take me to court?

A good lawyer will tell you once you cross state lines you’re home free. Don’t sign anything.

breaking the lease

Read the lease terms, there for sure an explanation for early termination.

Friend's kid recently did this due to them buying a house, they paid around $3,500.00 to break the lease but did get most of their deposit back.

I am paying $2,900 a month right now. The lease says you are bound to the terms agreed upon and has no clause for breaking the lease....like most leases with large apartments. So if they keep the deposit (which I think they will) they basically will get $9,000 for me to leave...I am not paying that.

You are breaking your lease. Do yourself a favor and pay what they ask now instead of this ruining your credit. If you don't pay now you risk having to spend double or triple to clean the mess up later on.

Read your lease. It will have a specific clause about early termination. It’s probably:
quote:

two months rent,

They want your address so they can send your deposit.

Your lease, notice to vacate, and proof of payment of the two months rent should be all you need to contest something they put on your credit.

Yeah, I took a new job and I told the apartment. That is when they sent the notice to vacate.

Leave them a note on your counter that says “ please contact my lawyer with questions. Boosiebadazz@gmail.com”

This is not to answer your fake question but to answer actual people with real questions…

If there is no buyout they can charge through the end of the lease. If you skip out then you forfeit your deposit. That means it is not applied to rent owed.

I’m pretty sure I told you all this years ago when you chose not to listen…

Every lease has a clause for breaking the lease. Every. single. one. Now the lease clause might say something like you owe the entirety of the remainder of the lease if you vacate, but it will be in there.

Also, what did they say when you called the office and asked them?

I got tricked by the serial alterer into posting to him. I should always check before responding.
