They just did another Drag Queen Story Hour at the library. Maybe they can cut that

And if I only had a few bucks for every time I've heard this line from a slimey politician, I'd be set.

Why the big difference? Why is EBR so high?

Well you see, NOLA is a city, and EBR is a parish. The per person budget for NOLA is still higher then EBR with those numbers.
Oh, and with St George stealing everything for themselves, EBR needs all it can get right now.

Make those cuts please!

If she makes these property tax increases she will cause the city to gentrify overnight as the poor & elderly will flee to other places outside of Orleans Parish.

NOLA has been gentrifying for years. I agree this will speed up the process though.

No question it has been gentrifying for years and only sped up Post-Katrina but this will be a gentrification on steroids and those pushing this are too stupid to see it.

I would say this would be the equivalent of putting a Toll of the Causeway to keep the poor out of Orleans Parish.

I would raise property tax by 200% on every land lord that rents to Section 8.

New Orleans is a consolidated city-parish.

NO 722 million dollar budget
EBR 1 Billion dollar budget and that’s not counting Zachary, Baker and Central’s budget.

NO estimated 391,006 population (2018) growing
EBR estimated 440,956 (2018) shrinking

Why the big difference? Why is EBR so high?

New Orleans has multiple boards that colllect assessments (city, SWB, Levee district, crime prevention districts etc). Whereas Baton Rouge has about 90% of the services provided through the city/parish government. That is likely the disparity.

With respect to the roll forward talk, the increased assessments only matter based on the percentage of the previous tax rolled forward, ie 100% results in full tax bill increasing fully proportional to assessment increase. A roll back essentially holds tax bills the same as previous by reducing the millage rate applied to each property.

we moved out of orleans parish into plaquemines because of this. I grew up in a middle class neighborhood, safe as can be throughout my youth, never had a break in on the block for 18 years I lived there.

Now, my former street is full of section 8 and whats sad is that my elderly neighbor (who is now 82 and lives alone) had her house broken into 3 times the past 6 months. She has lived there for 52 years, the ONLY owners of that house, where she raised 3 children, and where her husband died. Now she has to move in with her daughter in Kenner because she doesn't feel safe.

that's sad.

Said it before but I'll say it again because it bears repeating...

The last 2 mayors of Las Vegas have been...a former mob lawyer, then his wife...and folks HERE laugh at how bad politics in New Orleans and Louisiana is.

Let that sink in...

I am so fricking glad that my wife finally sold her property in Uptown, and we are completely out of that shithole of a city completely taken over by hoodrats.

As for Cantrell, her hubby was in court and dumbass admitted to that a joint that fell out of his pocket was for his own use. Stupid F'er could have said it was from a client and he was holding evidence.

That's how dumb they are.

That's a pretty flattering picture. She's no Keisha Lance-My-Bottoms, but in the right light she's kind of a dumpier, clearance rack version of Queen Latifah. Probably would.
