I wonder if the Russians have had any Naval support in Mariupol? I haven't made it a point to look for reports of it. Looks like those efforts will be reserved for Odessa. Meaning shelling, not landing.
I have nothing but speculation to offer, and it’s probably not informed enough to even bother.

What a crazy day and age to live in when a dude on the internet can look at live military maneuvers and post them in a public forum.

Sneak attacks should look a lot more like Pearl Harbor or 1939 Poland than this.
Those will never happen again. Not when we have satellites that can read newspapers on the ground, connected to the internet.

The guy might be a liar/ Russian propagandist
I never claimed he was a propagandists. I just think it wasn't what he thought it was going to be and the strike on his barracks drove home the fact that the opposition has real weapons and warplanes that Afghans and Iraqi insurgents never dreamed of having and it shook him to his core. No shame in that and I can understand that.
But for him to claim they were sent to the front without even rifles and the ones who did get rifles only had ten rounds is a stretch. Again, if this was the case and the countries of these volunteers caught wind of that kind of behavior (like threatening to shoot them if the didn't go) and sending their countrymen to the front lines with now weapon would drastically change western support for the Ukrainian military. Especially the part about them trying to kill volunteers who changed their minds. The Ukrainians aren't going to kill western volunteers who get over there and don't want to fight. But they have no obligation to then help those volunteers that came wanting to fight get out of the country. Once they change their mind about joining the front lines they pretty much say good luck to you and thanks for wasting our time. They know they have no chance to win without the western support they're getting now.

Map of the Mariupol area. Red is Russian controlled area. Blue line is approximate Ukrainian defenses. The red circle is the hospital in question. Green line is the humanitarian corridor that has been established.

To be fair it doesn't look like the Russians get much more than that.

Not really. Ukraine is probably using most of these guys as rear guard/check point type troops while the real soldiers are getting the bullets and guns to go to the actual front.
quote:Probably overblown, but let’s not pretend that every Ukrainian is some sort of choir boy. I have zero doubt that any such orders came down from on high, but if you’re some Ukrainian who’s been sucking it out in the cold and mud for the last three weeks and some dude runs away it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he shoot you.
Especially the part about them trying to kill volunteers who changed their minds.

Like I said, if western media catches wind of western volunteers being sent to the front with no weapons to be used as cannon fodder, their governments aren't going to be too happy and possibly stop sending the equipment and aid.
Not to mention the suggestion earlier in the thread that Ukrainians killed the journalist. If they get caught killing journos as false flag propaganda against the Russians, then yeah, public support from the west will take a major blow.

What possible advantages could come from the Russians taking patients and doctors hostage.
People here won’t like this but it looks more than likely that the Russians have put the civilians in the basement because there is a battle taking place according to your map.

I disagree. These guys are volunteers. No one told them to go and it’s not part of our aid package. These guys are adrenaline junkies and war tourists. It makes for a good story and serves its purpose. Nothing beyond that.

Highly doubtful it was a false flag. A rogue soldier at worse and a tragic mistake at best.

That shite won't make the news, any real military is at the front so is all militia he was referring to. They will absolutely shoot your arse. If you know anything about history you know that militia type groups are well known for not necessarily being disciplined.

How are they gonna get through all of that diversity training in 3 days?

Russians’ 3 day training probably consisted of a 3 day pregame/bender.

Thank you for the offer, but such excellent training would give me too much of an advantage.
If he is afraid to fight, I will agree to use only my left hand and I am not even left-handed.
