People here won’t like this but it looks more than likely that the Russians have put the civilians in the basement because there is a battle taking place according to your map.

That's possible. But you can't ignore the possibility that whatever Russian unit is at that hospital are acting on their own whilst also arguing that Ukraine likely has bad actors/rogue troops on their side.

I'd like to see more reports on the hospital situation.

I’m looking at it from the most likely scenario from my perspective. The hostage idea just seems silly to me.

Hell, the absolute first objective of US forces during the battle of fallujah in 2004 was the hospital.

I know what you're saying, but we've seen plenty of silly from Russia so far.

The Russians haven't really shown that they value medical/hospital infrastructure to this point. Or, at least they haven't gone out of their way not to destroy that infrastructure. If only one or two hospitals had been inadvertently hit to this point, I could easily agree with you, but we've seen multiple hospitals in multiple cities hit, some essentially destroyed.

It just doesn't seem like a high value target to them at this point.

It always was, but that does not equal "Ukraine has surrendered, or is about to."

So we know where the money is supposed to be going, at least:

@JenJudson (Defense News)

In my inbox this morning DOD provided a list of what the $6.3 omnibus spending package for Ukraine covers:
Anti-air capability
Anti-armor capability
Small arms and ammunition
Tactical gear
Meals Ready to Eat
Military medical (e.g., first aid kits)

I’m intimately aware.

But you know what I’m saying. Storming and taking over a hospital isn’t really out of the norm.

The Red Cross was absolutely certain Hodj had been shot in the head after he surrendered, Mattis said no we train them to shoot the head, its more humane.

it's just annoying to see the general attitude that all Russians are bloodthursty murderers and all Ukrainians are stoic Rambos.

The sooner more people look at this conflict in a rational way, the sooner we can see some rational interpretations of the data we're getting.

So, can we come to some reasonable compromise on realistic Russian troop losses? Even Western figures are becoming hard to believe. The current estimate is between 6 and 8 thousand. That is just hard to wrap your head around, particularly when you consider casualties and POWs added to that number.

Can we knock a thousand or two off of that and be more accurate? Or, could US/other intelligence be good enough to be pretty close?
