Portnov's last day

Portnov, whose location wasn't known to the wider public, was shot dead by unidentified attackers outside the American School in Madrid on May 21.

The shooting took place at around 9:15 a.m. local time, with Portnov being shot at five times and suffering at least three wounds to his head and torso, Spanish newspaper El Pais reported, citing undisclosed police sources.

The shot to the head proved fatal, the outlet wrote.

Two or three people are believed to be involved in the attack, though no arrests have been made so far. The newspaper's sources suggested debt issues as a possible motive.

Criminal proceedings are underway.

ISW Update May 21 2025

quote:

Key Takeaways:

Russian President Vladimir Putin likely orchestrated a meeting with Kursk Oblast officials on May 20 to set conditions to justify the renewal of Russian plans to seize Sumy City and illegally annex Sumy Oblast.

Russian forces are highly unlikely to be able to seize Sumy City in the near- to medium-term given Russia's demonstrated inability to rapidly seize even much smaller settlements in Ukraine in the past three years.

Russia continues to promote the false narrative accusing Ukrainian forces of "neo-Nazism" as part of dual Kremlin efforts to justify continued Russian offensive operations in Ukraine despite ongoing peace talks, and to prepare the Russian population for a Russian rejection of any future peace agreement.

Russia continues to reject American proposals to establish a ceasefire in Ukraine before starting negotiations to end the war.

Russian officials are setting conditions to refuse Western involvement in peace negotiations to end Russia's war in Ukraine and for Russia to deny the independence and sovereignty of other former Soviet states.

Russian security services continue to conduct hybrid operations against the United States and its allies in preparation for a larger future war with NATO.

The recent establishment of the first formal motorcycle unit within the Ukrainian military demonstrates the rapid technical adaptation cycle that has become typical in Ukraine and that will become a key characteristic of future wars.

Russian forces recently advanced near Velyka Novosilka.

I’ve seen some crazy on this site over the years (nearly live posting of murder at the bluffs, identification of the Mickey shunick killer before police were aware, judge in the Charlize Theron adoption posting here et al) but this firehouse of bullshite from Russian cocksuckers maybe be the top crazy.

And Russia loses money on ever barrel sold. It's like buying something with a credit card then pawning for less money. Cash flow but losing.

Incorrect. You have a mental illness.

"Russia does not lose money on every barrel of oil sold, as the cost of production is generally lower than the sale price, even with sanctions and price caps in place. The average production cost for Russian oil is estimated to be around $15 per barrel, though this can vary depending on the oil field and extraction method, with some marginal wells costing up to $20 per barrel.

The G7-imposed price cap on Russian oil, set at $60 per barrel since December 2022, has forced Russia to sell its oil at a discount compared to global benchmarks like Brent crude. For instance, Russian Urals crude has traded at discounts ranging from $5 to $19 per barrel below Brent, with recent prices around $66-$70 per barrel. Despite these discounts, the sale price typically remains well above production costs, meaning Russia still generates a profit per barrel, though significantly less than pre-sanction levels when prices exceeded $100 per barrel."

According to a war correspondent, the former deputy died as a result of a FAB-3000 attack

Oh yeah, that'll do it. The thing about FAB attacks we never hear or see exact casualties cause everything in the building turns into scraps and rubble so hard to assess the damage. But it seems like it's a huge casualty multiplier for Ukraine these big guided bombs.
